Agwen Rajof is a triple-Fire magician and a quarter of Vritra clan heritage. She was once a priest candidate at Atera's Fire temple, but was forced to abandon her position once it was clear that the barrier was flawless. She later became a professor at Eloth's University of Magic, and was set to become a visiting professor at Mistyshore University when the second attack on Atera occurred. She has since returned to Atera and serves as a backup for the Priest of Fire.

Appearance[]

Agwen appears as a young woman with light skin tone. She has medium length dark pink hair which she often ties in a ponytail, black eyebrows, and blue eyes. In Season 1, she wears brown long boots with high heels, a dark grey medium length skirt with a lighter grey inner layer, and a brown jacket that has two extending tails on the back and has a dark-brown pattern on it. She is initially also seen wearing a brown brimmed hat with two patches of feathers/fur on the left side, and carrying a staff that looks like a pole with a large clump of feathers/fur on top of it, slightly resembling a mop.

Personality[]

Agwen initially appears as a cheerful and independent woman, who might have tendencies to boss around other people. She is also reputed to be a very harsh teacher; according to one of the transfer students at Mistyshore University, 27 out of the 30 students in her class back at Eloth received an F.[1] She is shown to be caring when her father is sleeping and recovering his vigor. She seems to be in conflict with her father sometimes, which is fueled by his somewhat indifferent and inconsiderate ways as well as events that have transpired in her past. Agwen seems to lack awareness of the nature of dragons, and takes her father's indifference personally.

Notes[]

  • Her blue eyes are a trait inherited from her ancestor Utpala, a Vritra clan nastika who is now deceased.[2]
  • Agwen loses her hat after traveling with her father Kasak to Atera via Crescent Gate.[3]
  • She likes to buy Shess hats that cover up his sura features, and has known him since she was young.[4]
  • Agwen has bought out many fragments of Yaksha's bones and destroyed them so that half hunters cannot use them to catch halfs.[5]

Plot[]

Spoiler warning: Plot and/or ending details follow.

History[]

1-60 Agwen defends herself from her father

Agwen defends herself from her father [6]

Agwen is the only child of the half-dragon Kasak Rajof and a pure-blood fighter, Meiwen Hael. Her father would usually wear special earrings which suppressed his dragon indifference. She never got to meet her grandmother, Ian Rajof, as the woman was already dead when Kasak finally chose to introduce his wife and daughter to his parents. She, however, got to meet her grandfather, Taksaka, at the occasion.[7]

When Agwen was little, Shess would visit Kasak's family. She would play with Shess and give hats to him.[4] Her mother got injured at some point and had to retire as a fighter. Agwen found herself a fiancée who she was to marry.[8]

Taksaka would visit Kasak's family in the human realm. He was present during the fighters championship in D995 where he wore the earrings rather than Kasak.[9] An incident leading to the death of Airi Yui has been hinted to have happened on that day.[10]

During the Cataclysm of N0, under the influence of massive emotional resonance, Kasak went berserk and killed Agwen's mother, best friend, and fiancée.[6] He was said to have done massive damage in Rindhallow.[11] Agwen managed to defend herself and survive somehow. She was able to emotionally recover from the event, but still becomes upset with her father's indifference when he is not wearing the earrings.[6]

1-65 Fire priest candidates

Sometime after N5, Agwen was one of several priest candidates who left Atera after Brilith Ruin's flawless barrier made their jobs unnecessary.[12]

Agwen later became a professor at Eloth University, and Asha Rahiro was one of her students.[13] She was known for being very strict.[1] Agwen is also an advocate for half rights and she has been buying out shards of Yaksha's bones and destroying them so that half hunters cannot use them.[5]

Season 1[]

Chapter 8: The Wavering King[]

1-54 Agwen and Kasak

New city, new life

(4) Agwen happily breaths in fresh sea air at the shore near Mistyshore, and scolds Kasak Rajof, her father. When Kasak notices something from the nearby jungle, she quickly heads there to investigate, and discovers Yuta, who had just finished his business with some half-killing humans, but has yet to regain his human eyes.

(5) Agwen is taken aback by the situation, but manages to collect herself, and tries to cast hoti brahma on Yuta in her bid to capture him. Much to her surprise, the spell yields no effect whatsoever, allowing Yuta to make his escape. When a demotivated Kasak finally makes it to the scene, she tells him to remove his earrings and apprehend the criminal. Kasak corrects her presumption of the bloodied scene as a murder scene when it was actually blood from injuries Yuta inflicted on humans for torturing and killing a half. When Agwen encounters the half-blood's body, she prays for the gods to have pity on him and consider him human. Kasak also corrects Agwen that Yuta is not a regular human half, but is a half of Garuda and Taraka heritage.

(6) A pair of students spot a sign welcoming Professor Agwen Rajof to the Mistyshore university, surprising them to learn that the university had enough money to lure her. One of them complains that he transferred to Mistyshore from Eloth to get away from her and her tendency to fail her students.

Chapter 9: Rival[]

1-59 Agwen portrait

Delighted to have dinner with everyone

(2)At the Mistyshore Magicians Guild lodgings, Agwen puts a sleeping Kasak to bed after receiving help from Yuta in carrying him and their baggage into the room. She wonders where he left his earrings since his horns are tearing up the pillow.

Leez is surprised that Agwen treats her father so coldly. Asha implies that Kasak wronged Agwen in the past. Asha also reveals that Agwen was her professor at Eloth university. When Asha suggests they all have dinner together, Agwen offers to treat them all to a meat buffet.

(3) At the buffet, when Agwen learns that Asha plans to travel through the water channel to Kalibloom, she offers to take Asha to the city in one day since she has the "fastest car on this star," but Asha declines since she is in no rush. Asha does not respond when Agwen asks why she is going to the Temple of Chaos. A frantic Rana Reimia arrives and tells Agwen there is a call for aid. After some hesitation, Agwen reads the full message, calling for a high-level fire magician in Atera because Brilith is having difficulties with the city's barrier. She tells Asha that she has to go, and pays their tab.

Rana re-familiarizes Asha of Agwen's situation when she realizes that Ran will be travelling with Yuta, a "half". She uses Agwen as a direct comparison of how an adult was able to process through the traumas of the Cataclysm better than children, such as Ran, could. For that reason, Ran cannot be near halfs, which stirs a conflict in Asha to choose between Yuta or Ran. During the Cataclysm of N0, massive emotional resonance happened and all halfs went berserk. Agwen's father was no exception. He killed Agwen's closest friend, lover, and mother.

(4) Realizing that Agwen is leaving soon and taking Kasak with her after Asha and Leez mention it, Yuta rushes out of his room to look for Kasak.

On his way to see Mr. Kasak, Yuta overhears Agwen yelling at a guild employee who insists they can only sell cooked meat. Agwen orders her to deliver it all raw and uncut or else she will take her to magician's court because she is delaying their departure. She then asks the employee to tell her where all the jerky is stored so she can get it herself.

Chapter 10: The Night it Rained Fire[]

(2) In a flashback from Brilith, it's revealed that Agwen was one of Atera's priest candidates who eventually left for other cities after feeling unnecessary due to the flawlessness of "Brilith's" barrier.

1-70 Kasak and Agwen

Traveling on Kasak

(7)Halfway to Atera, Agwen, on the back of her father who is flying in sura form, asks him if he ever found his earrings. Kasak asks her if it is for his convenience, or hers. He senses her trembling, and thinks back to a past conversation when Agwen asks why, even though he did not mean to do the things he did, he still does not show any contrition. She asks him if he even loved her mother at all. He replies that he did, but not at the moment, without his earrings. Agwen is aghast, and asks if he feels nothing for her as well. Kasak replies no, and explains that the reason he calls her "Princess" is to remind himself that she is his daughter, or else he might abandon her. His words devastate his daughter. Kasak admits that he loaned out the earrings and assures her that he will have them back soon. When Agwen asks if they could go any faster, Kasak surprises and scares her by taking a shortcut via his Crescent Gate transcendental.

1-73 Riagara's Black Volcano

Under attack

(10) Agwen regains her senses after passing out from the journey through the Crescent Gate. She asks her father if he's seen her hat, only to see a transcendental attack being launched at them. As Kasak shields her, she realizes they're facing three suras.

Agwen is in disbelief when her father tells her that the suras are not inferior suras, but rather 4th stage rakshasas. When Kasak indicates he'll use any force necessary to eradicate their enemy, Agwen asks how can he when the city will become collateral damage as a result. Kasak tells her daughter that there is no time to think about the city right now.

(11) Agwen observes the ensuing fight from her father's back and asks him why he keeps aiming at the smaller rakshasa. Kasak replies it doesn't matter where he aims at, his attacks eventually target that particular rakshasa. Agwen worries about his vigor and suggests he fight them physically instead of relying on transcendentals. Kasak admits he would if she wasn't around. Her father's response makes Agwen feel like she's only a burden to him. Just then, she is snatched from her safe position by a red-and-white flying sura. When Kasak turns around and sees that Maruna has his daughter, his eyes turn red. Maruna taunts Kasak that the human he captured must be precious to him if he's carrying her around.

(12) Injured, Agwen remembers her father revealing to her why he calls her Princess: To remind himself that she is his daughter. Agwen regains her consciousness and looks for a chance to escape with her last remaining teleport. She thinks it is pointless for the sura to take her hostage, but she has a glimmer of hope when she sees her father giving chase. Hope turns to horror when her father fires a transcendental at them. Surprised by Kasak's reaction, Maruna wonders if he overestimated how much Kasak values Agwen, but it gained the dragon's attention, so Maruna continues with his plan.

(13) The sura eventually sets Agwen down in a forest while she cries. Maruna takes note of her appearance and guesses she's a quarter who's a relative of the dragon by her differently colored eyes and hair. He wonders how Kasak could endanger her without hesitation. Not long after, Kasak shows up, and he and Maruna start to fight, leaving Agwen forgotten.

(16) To stop Kasak from fighting him, Maruna reminds the dragon half the human deposited on the forest floor that could be easily killed by accident. Kasak unflinchingly replies that it's not something the rakshasa should worry about.

1-82 princess

Young Agwen and her father, Kasak.

(17) The still-injured Agwen is discovered by Leny, sitting atop of Shess's sura-form head. (19) After Shess returns to human form and confirms that she is Kasak's daughter, he notes her severe injuries and begins to heal her over her father's objections. (20) He then offers himself as a buffer between father and daughter, since this would be an excuse for Leny to live among humans.

Chapter 12: Lies for You[]

1-89 generosity

Pampering Leny

(1)In the merchant district of Atera, Leny enjoys shopping together with Agwen, who sponsored her and Shess so they could enter the city. Shess comments to Mr. Kasak that Agwen bought him hats without asking him his opinion, just like in the old days when she was little.

Season 2[]

Chapter 13: Lost[]

2-2 lost memories

Taksaka, Agwen and Kasak

(2) Airi recalls a diary entry where she wrote about getting ten valuable autographs from Kasak, who was accompanied by Agwen, before the Cataclysm. She is unable to remember any of it because of amnesia from the Cataclysm, and Agwen claims to be unable to remember anything about the event when asked about it, either.

Chapter 21: Frozen Tears[]

(5)(13) When Agni heads out to defend Kalibloom which is under attack by suras, Agwen is called on to hold the Atera fire barrier. She is the only visitor who Brilith had on that day.

Chapter 23: The Good/The Line[]

2-81 meeting with Agni and Brilith

With Lorraine

(1) During a meeting in Atera, Brilith reads a notice from Mr. Kasak stating that he plans to stay in Kalibloom for a while. Agwen is depressed because his father seems to have forgotten about her. To cheer her up, Agni lies and tells her that her father also requested that they look out for her. He then questions her about her charges Leny and Shess, and she tells him that they're Kinnara halfs and friends of her father.

Chapter 24: Taboo[]

(4) Soon after the Cataclysm of the year N0, Agwen is surprised that Riche Seiran is offering a reward of 1 million gold to anyone who can cast the hoti vishnu spell. She then congratulated Asha Rahiro for getting full marks on her quiz again.

Chapter 31: Your Justice and Mine[]

2-141 past conversation

God Agni and Agwen

(7) Agwen reads a report on Asha Rahiro's trial, during which Asha was convicted of serial murder, and thinks that no one with a shred of humanity would be able to go as far as she did. She quickly hides the letter when Brilith enters the room because Agni advised her to keep these things from Brilith since it could negatively impact her emotions and her vigor.

Her accounts statement falls to the ground and Brilith picks it up, asking why Agwen is receiving such a large amount of money from Rindhallow (20 000 gold a day). Agwen explains her father is working there as a mercenary. Brilith speculates that Kasak must care about Agwen a lot to go make money for Agwen into a risky zone.

Agni bursts into the room reporting that Aeroplateau and Rindhallow have joined to defend against suras. Agni says he cannot leave Brilith's side and go aid the cities alone, so Brilith suggests they go together. Agwen will hold the Atera barrier in the meantime.

Chapter 32: Loser[]

2-165 agwen

Worried for her dad

(1) Agwen is at a meeting where the magicians discuss that transmissions from Rindhallow have been cut off meaning that the attack on that city could be serious. They worry about the safety of Atera since Agni is not holding the barrier anymore and all the other priest candidates are far worse at holding the barrier compared to Agwen.

Agwen sits in silence and worries about her father's safety. She thinks that he is making an effort to act like a father to her, but it does not come from his heart. She recalls that Kasak could never mourn without his earrings, not even the death of his wife. Would he even care if she dies?

(3) Leny notes that Shess has been disappearing often lately and worries if sponsoring him all the time is not burdening for Agwen who has to come all the way to the checkpoint each time.

Kasak fights a fifth stage rakshasa in space and he forces the newly summoned god Chandra to go hold Atera's barrier when the sura threatens that city. Having no other way to defeat the rakshasa, Kasak opens a Crescent gate and pushes the rakshasa through it, getting pulled in himself.

Season 3[]

Chapter 35: Return[]

3-002 Agwen

Life is better in Mistyshore

(2) Shess and Agwen are sitting at a beach in Mistyshore while Leny plays in the water. They discuss that Agwen is far happier here than she was in Atera, though she worries that she was unable to find a man for Brilith. Shess jests that Agwen has not been in any relationships either. Agwen is reminded that her father killed her last boyfriend.

A giant wave suddenly heads towards shore. Shess immediately reacts, gets into the water, and picks up Leny. She alerts him that there were other kids who are nowhere to be seen.

(3) Leny is on the shore and crying as Agwen wraps her in a towel. Agwen assures Leny that Shess will save the children.

(5) After Shess saves Ran Sairofe's children from odd suras, Agwen informs Ran of Shess's identity. They sit at a vegan restaurant when Agwen tells Ran that the strange suras were of the Taraka clan, but apparently, Ran had already been told by Chandra, who had been sending Ran to kill them.

Chapter 42: Your Seven Years[]

3-049 Kasak is back

With Rana

(2) When Airi Yui died in D995, Agwen was there on that day. After Claude made a deal ensuring Airi's resurrection in N0, Agwen had to be contacted separately. She was told that the siblings were making a cover story according to which Airi had died only in N0 and had been resurrected by hoti visnu. Airi's missing time is to be explained by memory loss. Agwen has been going along with this cover story.

(4) Rana Reimia receives a letter from Ran detailing that Kasak Rajof and Leez Haias had returned from the sura realm. She lets Agwen read it and states her desire to go to Kalibloom. Agwen asks to go with her.

Chapter 46: Soul[]

(1) When Rana and Agwen reached Kalibloom, Ran was already off on some expedition. Agwen bought a large amount of alcohol for Rana and brought it into the Temple of Earth to help her drink away her frustration.

(9) After Brilith got targeted by a mysterious attack and saved by Agni, Agwen, Brilith and Rana Reimia discuss the situation. Agwen wonders how the target could have escaped Agni's perception, since it should not be possible. Rana suggests that Brilith should stay inside the barrier at all times to avoid attacks, and Agwen takes it even further, suggesting that Brilith keeps Agni around at all times. Brilith expresses discomfort at the idea.

3-098 Matchmaker

Matchmaker

Later, as Agwen and Rana walk outside of the temple, they discuss Brilith's discomfort with Agni, and how they find this difficult to understand. Rana suggests that Brilith has feelings for Agni, citing a conversation from five years back. Just then, Brilith appears via the Staff of Agni's teleportation skill, and corrects their assumptions. She tells Rana that five years was enough time for feelings to change, and compares Agwen being unable to understand Brilith's discomfort with Agni to being unable to understand Agwen's discomfort with Kasak. Before she leaves, she tells Agwen that since she came to Kalibloom to see her father, Agwen should not be wasting her time gossiping about others.

Rana apologizes to Agwen, stating that even though Brilith had changed since learning how to use the Staff of Agni, she is sure Brilith did not mean her words. Agwen admits Brilith was not wrong and then asks Rana about Ran.

(11) Agni teleports to the Temple of Earth where Agwen was reading a book and he encourages Agwen to meet up with her father if she has not done so already. He also reminds her to make sure that the fires in the temple stay lit.

Chapter 47: Words That Never Reached You[]

3-102 Meiwen Hael

Agwen's mother, Meiwen Hael

(1) Agwen is given the key to Kasak's room and gets warned that Kasak may be violent if woken up.

(2) In a flashback to N0, young Agwen asks her mother if father is still asleep since her fiancee's parents are waiting outside for the engagement party. Upon learning that Kasak is not wearing his earrings, the mother warns Agwen not to disturb her father. She reveals that the reason she retired as a fighter was actually because Kasak had injured her when he was not wearing earrings. She believes the earrings hide his true monstrous nature and create an illusion. Meiwen hopes she can die before getting killed by that monster. Kasak ominously appears in the doorway.

3-102 asleep

They meet again

In the present, Agwen approaches her father's bedside. She wonders if he dreams about his fake self laughing with his family and notices the new purple earrings he is wearing. Kasak suddenly leaps at her, and Agwen teleports out of reach. She creates a hoti Brahma barrier and tries to speak to him. She tells him that she hopes they could make up, but Kasak jumps forward, breaks the barrier... and pushes her out of the way just as a sura form Shess stomps the place she was standing at to the ground.

(3) Kasak takes sura form and fights Shess, Agwen sits in the fur on his head. Kasak slices off Shess's head and tells Agwen to listen, for there is something he must say and there may not be another chance. It would seem that Shess will not give them the necessary time, since he unleashes a transcendental, which Kasak proceeds to counter with his own. Agwen realizes that Shess might be under the influence of a mental transcendental because his eyes are uncharacteristically blue.

(7) Shess and Kasak claw at each other, drawing blood. Finally, Chandra arrives and knocks Shess unconscious, allowing Kasak to revert to human form and return to sleep.

Rana assures Agwen that she has treated all of Kasak's injuries, although he is likely to sleep for quite some time because of his drained vigor. Rana is curious if Agwen and Kasak were speaking and expresses belief that Kasak must care about Agwen to protect her so. When she asks about Kasak's new earrings, Agwen explains that it is an item which allows Kasak to train with dragon nastikas in his dreams. Rana gets called off by someone saying that Ran is back.

(17) Leez comes into the room where Kasak is sleeping through the window. Agwen gives her her boots, which Leez had taken off and handed over to Rana for fear that Chandra would take them.

Leez reveals that Kasak has an extremely short lifespan. They sought the advice of gods in the sura realm and Kasak was given the earrings which make it so that he does not lose lifespan while asleep. Kasak is further able to train with dragon nastikas who have made a contract with him in his sleep, Taksaka was the first to agree. The dreams not only allow Kasak to train, he is also able to borrow the power of the nastikas.

Leez leaves the city with the intent to continue in her search and avoid being imprisoned by Chandra. She asks Agwen to tell Kasak what happened.

3-120 Agwen and Kasak

Incomprehension

(20) Agwen is sitting by her father's bedside and wondering why she had to learn all these things from Leez instead of him telling her himself. She criticizes Kasak for not minding her safety when she got kidnapped 8 years ago in Atera since a normal father would, and brings up that Kasak treats Leez differently than her. Kasak tells her that he never intervened when Leez got taken hostage in the sura realm because she would always kill herself first.

Agwen gets agitated at the comparison and Kasak finds this irrational conversation difficult, half nodding off to sleep. Chandra suddenly appears and takes Agwen off to Atera. He refuses Kasak's offer to go along since Kasak does not have enough faith in the gods to teleport. Chandra warns Kasak not to do anything crazy like use the Crescent gate and off they go.

Chapter 48: Separation[]

(1) Chandra teleports Agwen to Atera and has her take over the fire barrier, as the city is under intense attack.

3-122 Chandra and Agwen

Chandra takes over

(2) Agwen is getting strained to hold the barrier. She thinks about how the barrier will draw on her lifespan once she exhausts her vigor. But she believes she should have died long ago anyway. Only luck is responsible for the fact that she survived despite her father being who he is, and in such a case, it is only right that she sacrifices herself. She thinks that no one would miss her anyway and then gives voice to a small wish, that her father would come to her side.

Chandra appears before Agwen, breaks her out of her reverie, and takes over the barrier. Agwen feels slight disappointment.

3-141 Agwen and Natasha in Atera stone barrier

Temple falling apart

(21) As Taraka suras start passing through the barrier, Natasha attempts to take over the barrier stone from Agwen when suddenly, the Temple begins to crumble.

(28) Agwen is found lying unconscious under a pile of rubble.

Chapter 49: The Golden Knight 2[]

3-151 Agwen crying

Tears of happiness

(1) Taksaka, who saved both her and Natasha Ross, waits for her to wake up. Since her sight is blurry, she mistakes Taksaka for her father and displays great joy that he had come to her.

(5) Agni and Brilith Ruin arrive in the ruins of Atera and make plans to move the survivors to another city. When they suggest asking Kasak for help, Agwen overhears and tells them that Kasak is right there, pointing to Taksaka. Brilith and Agni go along with this misconception and ask Taksaka for assistance.
