Garuda's sword is a an item passed down to Yuta via Maruna. It has no official name (yet).

Characteristics[]

Garuda's sword is a mysterious sword with a jagged hilt and no guard, originally in the possession of Garuda. It has been passed down to Maruna and then to Yuta, to help Yuta suppress his transcendental value.[1] When not in use, it was usually covered by strips of cloth during Yuta's second stage, and worn as a metallic-looking belt with scales during his third stage. However, it can change into many different shapes, sometimes similar to real swords, while at other times resembling different weapons (chains with spike, double-axe). When not in its normal form (sword/belt), it will glow.[2] The precise requirements for unsealing it and its powers are so far unknown.

Skills[]

Gladiator of Light[]

The Gladiator of Light[4]

Conditions: Unknown

2-43 Garudas Sword as Poleaxe

One of the "Gladiator of Light" forms

This skill is originally a transcendental used by Nastikas who have light as their source attribute; it's a skill that absorbs weapons and stores them inside the body, and they can be taken out and used in a light form when needed. The basic attack/defense performance of the weapons is almost completely maintained, but detailed form and transcendental functions they had before being absorbed disappear.

Currently, Yuta is not using this transcendental skill himself, but uses an item: This weapon, which usually takes on the form of a stick wrapped in black cloth (2nd stage Yuta, belt in 3rd stage), has actually the form of a sword. It was passed down from Garuda to Maruna to Yuta. It seems there are quite a few weapons stored within it, but the forms Yuta can activate are so few that they can be counted on one hand.

2-47 Throwing Spear

During a battle, there may be a situation where the weapon is lost or stolen, but it can be retrieved with the throwing spear.[5]

Among the weapons Yuta can wield in the fights during the Test of the Sword, the most unique is a throwing spear, which can only be used when it's not in his hand. It may seem strange at first to throw with a weapon that has already missed its target, but this is just a problem caused by Yuta not handling this weapon properly; Originally, it is a throwing spear that can set up to 8 target points and attack at the same time. However, since Yuta is only able to designate a target point of the spear as himself, this function can only be used to retrieve a weapon that has been lost or to attack nearby enemies. At the time when he fought Riagara, Yuta would have inflicted damage to himself due to the weapon targeting himself, but fortunately, the weapon does not deal damage towards the creature designated as its current owner.

Notes[]

  • Sagara took the sword for a god-class Item[6]. It is not known whether this is true, especially in light of the information that Nastikas can create Items out of their body parts as well. In case it is a god-class item, the likely creators are Kali or Vishnu, going by Garuda's past affiliations.

History[]

2-14 Yuta recalls his brother (detail)

Maruna gives the sword to Yuta[1]

Although the precise details of the sword's creation is unknown, nastikas such as Garuda can create weapons by removing a piece of their body to be used for source material. The only condition the nastikas need to adhere to is to refrain from regenerating the wound the weapon was made from.[7]

The sword was handed down from Garuda to Maruna and then to Yuta, the current owner. Among the many functions of the weapon is also the one to hide transcendental value. And since Maruna knew how to hide his transcendental value on his own, he gave the sword to Yuta.[4]

The uncovered sword was first seen being held by Yuta just after he attacked a group of humans, consisting of a Half hunter and his customers, who had killed a Gandharva Half in cold blood.[8] The sword was briefly handed to Leez to protect an unknown person in their party from the Hide of Bondage,[9] but was later given back.

Yuta showed the item's full capability when he intervened in a fight between God Kubera and Sagara. Yuta intended to capture Sagara to eat her using the chain form, but she escaped by cutting off her own foot.[6]
