Claude Yui is an AA magician and the current Priest of Death in Rindhallow.[1] He is Airi Yui's older brother, and they appear to have a close relationship. It is revealed in Season 2 that he is the 2nd-ranked magician on Planet Willarv. He has a reputation for not taking his job very seriously, which frustrates some of the other priests, especially Laila Hemawati.

Appearance[]

Claude appears as a young man with long, purple hair and purple eyes, similar to his sister Airi. He also wears glasses. When outdoors, he is usually shown wearing a fluffy green cape over a long, darker green jacket, with a matching fluffy green bucket hat.

Personality[]

He is the person with the least work for someone of his rank. Compared to Rindhallow's Priest of Darkness, Laila Hemawati, he is someone with too much free time. He often leaves his priest duties to priest candidates to go traveling, which really makes Laila mad. It would not be a problem if they could simply replace him with a priest candidate when he goes traveling; however, his magic ranking is overwhelming among triple-deaths, so he gets to remain a priest.

He has a serious case of brother complex and keeps an exchange diary with his sister Airi.[2] Each sibling possesses his or her own diary. Separate transmission equipment is not needed; instead, each diary simply sends information to the other when a page is filled up with a certain number of characters. It is an expensive but useful item. The information vanishes after a period of time, which is rather inconvenient.

Skills and Abilities[]

At the beginning of the story, he is one of the four existing AA-ranked magicians. Because of the nature of death magic, no matter how talented one is, many cannot adapt. However, it is no exaggeration to say that Claude was born for death magic, and can use it freely. This causes anxiety for people, and makes them reluctant to approach him, especially considering that hoti yama and the Marut spells are the spells most suited for murder.[3] According to Asha Rahiro, a Death spell cast by Claude can be said to be absolute, since he is 2nd-ranked among all magicians, and the only way a hoti yama spell can be undone is to have it cast on the subject again by a magician with equivalent or higher divine affinity than the original caster.[4]

He is known to carry around a deck of tarot-like cards for the purpose of fortune-telling. He claims that his predictions are pretty accurate, but Siera Sies, the Priest of Earth, complains that he never predicts anything positive.[5]

Notes[]

  • During season 2, Claude uses honorifics towards almost everyone, except with Laila Hemawati. He uses casual speech with her. [6] [7]
  • Laila Hemawati frequently uses Claude as a test subject for her experiments; he does this job willingly.[8]
  • Both Claude and Airi often leave their room wearing pajamas. Currygom has stated that one of the siblings usually buys pajamas for both of them. [9]
  • There have been multiple hints that Claude might be wearing a wig during season 3:
    • Currygom gave 10 "facts" of the season that could be true or false. One of them is that Claude wears a wig because he's bald. [10]
    • During Claudeā€™s first appearance in s3, Currygom made a comment saying: ā€œIf you think Claude's hair looks awkward, your eyes are not deceiving you. Actually, his hair isā€¦ (Episode 2-153)ā€[11]
    • In the referred episode from season 2, it is stated that the sleeping pills Claude takes cause hair loss. [12]
    • When speaking about Claude's height, Currygom joked "you can't grow your hair back, but you can wear a wig"[13]
    • When Laila barges into Claudeā€™s room, Currygom comments on the scene with: ā€œIt's a relief that it was when he was changing his clothes. It's better than barging in when he's fixing his hair.ā€[14]
    • When Leez Haias lifts Claude, he holds his hair tightly.[15] Currygom also made a comment about it in the afterword, ā€œHold on to your hairā€.[16]

Plot[]

History[]

Claude and his sister Airi Yui, were born in foreign parts. [17] Airi was formerly his older sister, and she died in the year D995 at the age of 12. [17] [18] Claude asked Eline Haias to resurrect Airi, but she refused. [17]

3-047 Injured Claude

On the verge of death

Claude was 13 years old when he almost died during the Cataclysm. [18] At that time, Eline Haias and a hooded god approached him. Claude thought they had come to aid him, and as his lifespan will have ended in one month, he expressed the wish for his deceased sister to be returned to life. The god agreed to resurrect his sister as she was the day before her death, although Eline took credit for the resurrection. Eline also contacted the people who knew the siblings to change their origin story. The god additionally extend Claudeā€™s lifespan by 200 years, so he could serve the god to repay his debt. [17] According to the cover story that Claude and his sister were to go along with, they were fraternal twins, but he was born three months earlier. Since then, he has been the older sibling. [18]

Claude could use silent magic since he was very young; he allegedly had a wretched childhood. [17] His mastery in silent magic has earned him the position of one of the strongest magicians in Willarv. Though Claude is the Priest of Death, he does not carry out his duties seriously. He constantly slacks off and delegates all the work to the priest candidates.[19] Many people dislike his behavior and want to replace him, but he maintains his position because he is the best in death magic, though he would be apparently delighted to step down.[20]

He met Laila Hemawati when he was a child; they used to have a sort of teacher-student relationship. [21] As a fellow priest of Rindhallow, Laila is constantly forcing him to do his job, and quick to physically punish him when he neglects it. [20] [22] During his adult life, he has taken action to protect her life. [12]

Season 2[]

(This section needs to be rewritten in the standard style of this wiki's Plot sections.)

It is shown that he know about asha's hunt for people with the name 'kubera'. And he purposely uses hoti yama on leez to show asha leez's lifespan won't last long. Claude wants to know what decision asha will make. And at last Claude realize that Asha still think leez's worth protecting.

Even though Laila said that Claude won't sacrifice himself for his people. He took big part in a story which he tried to kill leez so many times and let asha know about it so asha will kill leez instead. it is because he wants laila to be safe. His uses of bhavati yama are very clever. 1. He used it to take control of an airship officer and told leez about the escape pill 2. He used it to take control of the guards when asha escaped from prison and told asha that she can't defeat him because he can just use another body to fight asha. He asked asha to kill leez. The last time He used it was to dream tracking brilith with laila's body. Extra: someone is using bhavati yama on leez and uses the sword of return's transcendental skill and golden knight to fight maruna. But after yuta shown up leez return to her self which means the caster draws back his/her bhavati yama. It is not claude because claude is talking with yuta at the moment and told him someone is going to die if he take no action. (Claude needs to sleep to use bhavati yama)

Season 3[]

Chapter 38: Devastation[]

3-024 use your heart

Claude making a fuss

(5) An agitated Claude approaches Laila holding a letter from Lutz Sairofe. Lutz believes the taraka suras choose their targets based on transcendental value. If many people with a high value gather in Kalibloom for the fragment experiment, a horde of taraka suras might attack the city.[23] Claude has already contacted the city, but their communication system is down. Therefore, something must be going on. Laila asks him to calm down because there is nothing they can do.

3-024 warmer days

Claude and Laila

Claude suggests that it would be nice of her to display some emotions instead of being so rational. He adds that he misses that part of her, and wonders about how much she has changed since the times when she used to cry for dying animals. Laila retorts that he has changed too, and that there is no sincerity in the scene he is making. She believes Claude has lost his sense of responsibility and is the person who has lost its humanity the most. Claude rebutes that there is someone worse than him. Someone who assassinated people to boost her power and went missing after killing Saha On ā€”Asha Rahiro.

She reflects on his words for a moment and voices realization that she forgot Asha. Claude says it is strange how Saha's murder case fizzled even though Lorraine left behind a letter explaining the truth.[24] Laila agrees with him and says she did not find it strange until he brought it up.

3-024 she is worse

Bad loser

Claude reflects on Lorraine. Although he has an idea of what could have happened, he cannot understand why this happened now. Laila questions what he is thinking. He states that Asha's life span ended in N13, but she was present during the battle of N16 (the sura attack on Rindhallow and Aeroplateau) because someone gave her an opportunity. After that, there were two possibilities: either win, or lose and die. But Asha took a third option; she could not win so she overturned the board so that no one could. She vanished for seven years, and now she is back to try to win again. Laila stares at him silently and then asks which god gave him an oracle. Claude only replies that he is the Priest of death.

Claude suggests that many people will be confused now that they remember Asha, and he thinks it would be terrible for someone in particular.

ā€œ It would be nice if you showed some emotion before being so rational. Ah, I miss the past. What happened to the most compassionate young woman in the world? The girl who used to sob her eyes out when she saw a dying animal? ā€

– Claude to Laila [11]

(6) Claude, holding a letter sent from Atera, goes to see Laila in her office to inform her that Brilith has collapsed just like he thought. Laila reminds him that it is futile to make a fuss, yet Claude incites her to help Brilith using dream tracking. She refuses because Brilith might be experiencing a mental breakdown, and interfering would damage her mind. When Laila adds that Brilith is in Atera, Claude asks her to stop making excuses because she can easily call Chandra back from Kalibloom to teleport her.

3-025 dramatic effect

Upset with Laila

She refuses again. Claude gets desperate, abruptly sticks a dagger in her desk, and proclaims a god's absolute priority is the safety of their summoner. He asks Laila how long would it take for Chandra to come if her life is in danger. She invites him to try and find out, but that she will snap his neck first. Claude puts on a serious expression for a second, then bursts into laughter saying that he would never hurt her.

He regains his composure and expresses acceptance that Laila will not help Brilith. Laila repeats that she does not want to damage Brilith's mind. Claude cannot comprehend why she is so concerned about that when her priority has always been the greater good. Her attitude angers him. He leaves.

ā€œ Who cares if her mind is damaged? It's not like you. The city, the greater cause, is always your priority. Why are you worried about the mind of one person? It really pisses me off. ā€

– Claude to Laila [25]

Chapter 39: The Value of a Life[]

3-026 Laila offers her hand to Chandra

Chandra is in disbelief

(1)Laila stands alone in her office when Chandra suddenly appears, shouting that they need to go to Atera immediately. She tells him that she is aware of Brilith's condition, and that she will dream track her. She cannot promise success, but the least she can do is try. The god is surprised by her positive attitude, but he worries that she might die if they teleport. Laila reassures him that she believes in him enough to survive.

She offers him her hand, and Chandra stares at it in disbelieve. Laila yells at him to hurry up and violently grabs his wrist. Chandra hesitantly agrees, but clarifies that he does not take responsibility if she dies and goes to hell. She requests that he stops scaring her with childish lies about blasphemy and hell. The god seems to notice something. He is shocked for a brief moment, then gets serious. He utters that her insolence has gone too far, she will definitely go to hell, and he will be there for it. They teleport.

3-026 inside a dream

At the Women's Magic Suit Fashion Fair

They arrive in Atera safely, although Lailaā€™s clothes are a bit torn. Chandra cannot believe his eyes but half-smiles in satisfaction. Laila asks him if he smiled, but he nervously denies it.

Once in Brilith's room, Laila urges everyone to leave and asks Chandra to secure the door. No one should interrupt the dream tracking because it could be dangerous for her and Brilith. Laila begins the dream tracking and finds herself at the Women's Magic Suit Fashion Fair that was held in Eloth in the first month of N12.

ā€œ Your insolence really goes too far... I don't know about anyone else, but you're really going to hell. Because when you die, I'll be there to give you what you deserve. ā€

– Chandra to Claude [26]

(2) Laila spots Brilith walking alongside a black silhouette. Then she recalls that Brilith went to Eloth to retrieve the staff of Agni, and Asha went to gather the signature of the AA magicians (Saha, Claude, and Lorraine) to access the Human Search System.[27] When Saha denied his signature, Asha asked Lorraine to use the system on her behalf. She deduces that the person with Brilith must be Asha, and she came to the fair to see Lorraine.

3-027 Saha surprise

Saha On

Laila follows the pair. She notices that Brilith has collected a package from a stand and so she asks the seller what was in it. The man replies that those were magician clothes and a fur cloak by Lorraine. She realizes that Asha must have already met with Lorraine. The landscape does not change despite Brilith abandoning the place. Laila questions if this is Brilith's dream. She can see the Human Search System, although Brilith has never used it. Suddenly, someone asks her why she is in town without wearing her mask, she turns around and faces Saha On, who she can see clearly unlike all the dark silhouettes. She finds it strange. Saha asks her if she is there to use the system. She affirms this, considering that this should be the most effective way how to discover what is up with this dream.

3-028 Laila searches

The Human Search System

(3) Once inside, Laila logs into the system. The level of accuracy with which Brilith recreated the system leaves her speechless. From outside, Saha prompts her to conduct her search quickly. Laila thinks to herself that she will stop dream tracking if a problem occurs, and decides that she will first search for the name Kubera. The screen displays the location of 25 people, Laila assumes this data must correspond to the data from N12 which was shown during the investigation of Ashaā€™s trial in N16 and Brilith would have been able to read it. When she realizes that the data does not match the reports presented in Aeroplateau, the screen turns red, the system starts reporting errors over and over, and the place begins to disintegrate. Laila shouts at Saha what is happening.

She is unable to open the exit door, and contemplates abandoning the dream, but changes her mind at the thought that Brilith's condition is severe, and re-entering later might be impossible. There is a loud sound on the other side of the exit, abruptly Saha forces the door open. As blood begins to pour from his mouth and body, he urges her to go save Brilith.

3-29 Black silhouettes

A crowd of enemies

(4) Once outside, Saha warns Laila that things will become a nightmare from this point on. She notices his wounds, but as he tells her not to worry about it, a black silhouette rushes towards him to attack him. Saha grabs a nearby pole and pulverizes it. He subsequently explains that his wounds show the amount of time he has left, as if he is returning to the time of his death. He suggests Laila should pay attention since there will be multiple obstacles on the way to Brilith. More black silhouettes appear, carrying pointed weapons.

Laila finishes off many silhouettes when a newspaper page drifts by. She grabs it. The date is N12.7.11 and includes news on Asha's first trial. Laila realizes that many months might have passed when she was in the Human Search System. Saha informs her that it is currently N12.11.21. After this day's nightmare, the dream goes back to early N12 because Brilith is reliving that year non-stop to reinterpret the Asha she thought she knew in light of the facts. The process is extremely painful for Brilith.

3-029 house of death

The site of a multiple crime

At night, they arrive at the farm in which Asha committed her last murders in N12: the three unsolved cases.[28] He instructs Laila to stop Asha and wake up Brilith at any cost to prevent the dream loop. He cannot aid her as he is going to disappear soon. Laila asks how that is possible if he is just a dream, then realizes that maybe he is not, since she has never heard of a defined and independent entity like him during dream tracking. Saha states that he had suspicions, but now he is certain. He says that she has not learned enough about dream tracking. Laila does not grasp what he means.

In the Temple of Death, Claude sleeps profoundly. A couple of staff members try waking him up, but give up when they notice that he took his pills to sleep. It is almost impossible to wake him up. His exchange diary is next to him and shows a message from Airi about how Laila just arrived to dream track Brilith. Airi wonders what Claude is doing and why he did not alert Laila himself despite getting notice from her even before the official letter arrived.

3-029 no glasses

Identity revealed

Back in the dream, Saha confirms he is not a dream, but suggests that Claude is. He tells Claude that he cannot fool him with bhavati yama. It is revealed that the Laila standing before Saha is in fact Claude. Saha asks him if he feels responsible for his death since it was him who prevented Asha from killing Laila.[12] Claude stammers nervously that it was not what he intended since he thought that Asha would go after Leez. Saha inquires him if Leezā€™s life is worth any less. Claude only bites his lower lip in response. Saha states that Claude does not care about anything but Laila's life, but it is fortunate that he at least takes action for her. Saha does not like it, but he will trust in Claude's only positive quality. He asks him what he thinks he needs to do to earn Laila's understanding and advises him to think about it carefully. Claude stares at Saha in silence until a scream coming from the farm captures his attention.

ā€œ I don't like this, but I'm going to trust in your one positive quality. Now that you've come this far, what do you think you have to do to earn Laila's understanding? Think about it, and give it your best shot. ā€

– Saha advising Claude [29]

(5) Claude, masked as Laila, storms into the place screaming for Brilith, and finds what seems to be a crime scene. A black silhouette stands next to two black silhouettes lying on the floor. He deduces they must be Asha and the people she murdered. Brilith tries to explain that she secretly followed Asha here in order to give her a birthday present. She pleads for Asha to stop saying strange things, surely she would not do something like this. Claude finds it odd that Brillith could follow Asha without getting noticed. But this is a dream, and many things are possible for the dream's owner. He reassures himself it is just a dream as he glances at Saha in the distance.

3-030 hoti indra

Hoti Indra

Claude yells at Brilith to wake up, that this is a dream and it is N23 in the real world, but his efforts are futile. He wonders what else he can do when the black silhouette attacks him from behind with a pointed weapon. He stops it by grabbing the silhouette by the arm. He considers that this proves that it is only a dream, because if it was the real Asha, she would have used Indra magic with the vajra. He then witnesses how the silhouette and weapon become visible. It is Asha with the vajra. Asha casts the spell hoti Indra.

As a result of the spell, Claudeā€™s form is now revealed behind Lailaā€™s. Claude leans on a rock in pain and ponders why Asha appears real and can use magic. Claude is shocked when Asha asks him if he is wondering if this is a dream. Asha adopts a threatening stance, states that he should have not involved himself in this and that she could have killed him long ago. Then Brilith grabs the vajra asking Asha to stop acting so uncharacteristic. Asha releases the weapon causing Brilith to fall back, landing her head on a rock and losing consciousness.

3-030 Laila and child Claude

Child Claude and Laila

Asha's attention is back on Claude. She says that Claude only wants to wake up Brilith because if Agni returns to the God realm, Laila will bear a heavier burden. She offers to let Claude abandon the dream and live to see Laila again. A speechless Claude wonders how a dream character can read his mind and make such an offer. Then he recalls a conversation he had with Laila when he was a child. Laila asked him if when he uses bhavati Yama, it feels like a dream. Claude realizes what he did not understand about dream tracking. He knows what to do to save Brilith, but he is hesitant to do it. His body starts losing its shape since he has decided to abandon the dream. Asha approves of his decision and starts walking away.

3-030 Bhavati Indra

Intense pain

Claude remembers Saha's words about what he has to do to earn Laila's understanding. He clenches his teeth and right fist, stands up and charges towards Asha. He hits her on the face. An upset Asha calls him a fool and asks him if he thinks he can defeat her. He shouts that she can stop bluffing, she needs to use at least bhavati Indra to kill him. In reaction, Asha casts the spell, and Claude ends up in intense agony.

ā€œ Be your usual self. If you want to see your beloved Laila again. ā€

– Asha to Claude [21]

(6) An unconscious Claude lays on the ground with his clothes a bit torn and visibly carbonized skin.

The lightning shock made Brilith accept the truth about Asha. She has learnt to use silent magic and she burns Asha with a rain of fireballs. Outside the dream, Brilith wakes up.

3-031 vegatative state

Heavily damaged

Brilith recalls a conversation she had with Claude about silent magic. He clarifies to Brilith that first a person loses their humanity, then they become good at silence magic. To Brilith, the silent magicians she knows do not feel less humans. Claude explains that the difference is subtle, and it is related to whether they committed a certain act or not. Most of those magicians would have done so during the Cataclysm. Claude advises Brilith to remain as she is now, for it is truly fortunate for someone of her talent to not use silent magic.

In Rindhallow, Claude lies on his bed with his eyes open and does not respond to the staff member who is calling his name. Getting hit by a spell inside the dream inflicted mental damage to the point to induce him in a coma. Mao gives orders to send letters about his state to all the cities and to contact Airi.

ā€œ Just stay the way you are. For a magician of your talent to have that part of you intact after all this time is truly lucky. ā€

– Claude advising Brilith [30]

Chapter 41: Your Seven Years[]

3-047 Comatose Claude

Comatose Claude

(1) Claudeā€™s sister, Airi, came to visit the comatose Claude, lying in bed with a piece of cloth covering half of his face. As per Claudeā€™s request, she is given a document which states ā€œA body revived with hoti Visnu contains a different soul."

(2) Airi burns the documents and leaves for Kalibloom.

3-047 visitors

Santa came early

In a flashback to the Cataclysm, when Claude was 13 years old, Claude lies amidst debris, injured and trapped by rocks. Two people approach him. One of them is Eline Haias, and the other is a hooded god. Claude believes they have come to aid him, and as his lifespan will end soon, he expresses the wish for his deceased sister to be returned to life. Airi's burial urn lies on a fallen bookshelf.

The hooded god notes that the ashes are old. Eline explains that Claudeā€™s sister died five years ago in an accident, and Claude had asked her to resurrect the little girl, which she refused. Claude still holds a grudge against Eline because she sold the Hoti Visnu spell for a high-price, only affordable by the rich.

3-047 Hoti Visnu spell

Human souls

The hooded god discloses to Claude that in the past, it was possible to revive a person with their true soul. If a person who still had lifespan died, their soul waited in the human realm until god Yama processed the name in the underworld. In the meantime, a soul could return to its body using Hoti Visnu. But that changed when a nastika started to annihilate those souls. [31] The gods decided to protect the human souls by modifying the process. The souls now wait directly in the underworld, and as Visnu's powers are incapable of piercing it, a person resurrected with hoti Visnu must receive a different soul.

Claude retorts that a resurrected person still has their memories and habits, to him, they are not fake. The hooded god clarifies that those concepts have nothing to do with the soul. For a modern human being, their body stores information about abilities, memories, and habits. The soul is solely a battery acting according to that information. The god adds that the soul contains only the strongest of memories. Claude listens carefully to the explanation, but he still stands by his beliefs. He is convinced that the can love a revived person as much as he formerly did.

3-047 Reborn

Little sister

After hearing this, the hooded god agrees to resurrect his sister as she was the day before her death, and Claude is not to divulge this. Eline will take credit for the resurrection and she will change the story of the little girl's death. She will contact the people who know the siblings to let them know that Claude has always been the older one. [32] Claude is moved and sincerely apologies to Eline. He asks her to take care of his sister for him as he only has one more month to live. The hooded god is displeased with this, and decides to extend Claudeā€™s lifespan by 200 years. In return, Claude will serve the god to repay this debt.

ā€œ How can you treat the person as fake, just because they have a new source powering their consciousness? I could love a revived person just as much as I loved their former self! ā€

– Claude to Brahma [17]

Chapter 46: Soul[]

3-94 Hooded God and Claude

Laila's choice

(1) (5) On Chandra's orders, Laila performs dream-tracking on Claude.[33] After multiple failures, she finds a child-Claude in his dreams, but she is ultimately faced with a decision between Claude's life and information. (6) Laila prioritizes Claude's life and as a result, Claude's oracle as well as the darkness in his mind gets taken back. It has been implied that the god who gave him this oracle and resurrected his sister was Brahma herself.

3-96 Claude is shocked

Guinea pig

When Claude opens his eyes, he sees Laila and Chandra next to him. He calls Laila by her name, which upsets Chandra; the god slaps him for addressing her casually. Claude flinches when Chandra starts screaming at Laila for disobeying his order to obtain information. Suddenly, Laila summons a pink spear and thrusts it between her and the god; she is displeased with the god's hostile attitude.

(7) Next, she asks Claude to touch the spear, he does it without question; nothing happens to him. He gets startled again when he learns that Laila just used him for an experiment. Laila leaves the room telling Chandra that she will not assist him in his bath time anymore. (4) Claude is shocked to hear this and asks Chandra about it, but in response is hit again.

Chapter 47: Words Than Never Reach You[]

3-106 Blue fire

Blue flames

(1) Laila Hemawati visits Claude in his room. She wants to know if he has written to Airi in their exchange diary since he woke up. He confirms it while sobbing because his sister has not answered in an entire day. He adds that this is something she would only do back in her university days when she was busy. Laila wonders what could be keeping Airi busy in Kalibloom. Claude is perplexed as he was unaware that she left Atera. He wonders what she would be doing in Kalibloom instead of being by his side when he was unconscious. Laila assures him that Airi indeed visited him, but went to Kalibloom after she read a document Claude left for her. [17] Claude retains no recollection of doing that.

(6) Laila and Chandra prepare to teleport from Rindhallow. Claude approaches them, asking Laila if she is going on a forced date with the god, and brings up the bath issue. [34] Laila denies it, and states that the bath it is not like he imagines it. Suddenly, Claude notices something in the sky; Laila recognizes that those are blue flames, but they seem to be far away.

3-118 DNR

With priest candidates

(18) Claude is sweeping the altar of the Temple of Death when Mao and two more Priest candidates come to see him. Mao is surprised that Claude has not fled since he woke up, and instead he is performing his priest duties. Claude thanks her for habitually carrying out the tricky jobs, and calls her ā€œgranā€. One of the priest candidates is astonished at the disrespectful way he addressed Mao but she says it is alright and that Claude used to call her that when he was a child. Then, the other priest candidate asks Claude if he has received any messages from Airi. He denies it, saying that she might be pretty busy. Mao thinks that perhaps Airiā€™s silence is related to the document Mao delivered to her by Claude's request. [35][17] Claude does not remember soliciting her to do that, so Mao explains he instructed her to hand over the document quite a while ago in case he could not do it himself. Claude is confused to notice Teo Rakanā€™s name on the Do Not Resurrect list.

3-119 Claude Yui

Happy Claude

(19) All of a sudden, Rindhallow is struck with a violent attack that breaks the barrier of death. Mao and the other priest candidates go check on Claude; the Priest has a bloodied face and a foolish grin. Although he claims to be fine, they drag him away from the stone barrier. One of the priest candidates requests Claudeā€™s exchange diary, but the Priest has already passed out with the smile still on his face.

Chapter 48: Separation[]

(9) Claude goes check on something that caught his curiosity regarding the timing of the attacks and the presence of Teo's name on the DNR list. His priest candidates stop him and carry him off to the barrier stone.

Chapter 49: The Golden Knight 2[]

(3) Erin Florussi brings in Leez Haias, who has come to visit Claude. Claude does not seem to recognize her even when Leez tries to remind herself to him, although he pretends he was joking when she grabs him by the collar. He uses the opportunity to get away from his ever-watchful priest candidates and asks Leez to block them while he runs.

3-153 Claude tells Leez her death date

Creepy priest

Outside, Claude cheers at his newfound freedom. He says he can finally go check on the issue that was bothering him [36] and apologizes that he does not remember Leez, explaining that his memory is a mess since recently. Leez reminds him that he promised to answer one more question to her.[3] Claude points out that the fact that Leez truthfully said he owes only one question when she could have made up any number, means she would never get rich.

Leez asks Claude to tell her exactly when she would die. Claude leans in to her and whispers the answer. He then speaks about the unfairness of the world when a person like her has such a short life and advises her not to waste the limited time she has on chasing after others.

DNR list

(4) Claude and Leez come to the altar of the Temple of Death. Claude realizes that Teo Rakan's nameplate is no longer present in the DNR list [37] and surmises what that must mean. In the case of people who have never been resurrected, their name disappears sometime after they die, but it is different for someone who had already been resurrected once.

Claude confirms the rumors that a revived person has a different soul and explains that people who think of the soul as their identity feel like having it replaced would mean getting robbed of their life. Since people would flock to put their names on the DNR list if they knew this was true, it is generally kept secret. For a person who has been resurrected, putting their name on the list signifies that they do not want to live the life of someone else and they want the previous life to take responsibility.

(5) Claude complies with Leez's request to send a message personally addressed to Agni and he sends it to all cities except for Atera, which is in no state to receive transmissions. Then they bond over their shared problems with blasphemy. After Leez asks for information from other cities, Claude reaches for a document stating that 6511 survivors have been confirmed in Atera, but he refuses to show Leez the document concerning Atera's situation.

Leez then asks for more information about Teo. Claude shares that Teo's memory got rewound to 7 years ago and that this is the result of a method of protest against Visnu magic breaching an area which should not be disturbed, death. Many see this method as blasphemy and wide-spread knowledge of it can allegedly cause troubles for the god of Death. That is why it is kept secret, passed down only among the priests of death.

Upon further discussion, Claude realizes that whatever document he was said to have passed on to Airi,[35] although he cannot remember, must have been the reason Teo learned of this method. He opens his exchange diary to contact Airi but notices that his priest candidates have used up the last page.[38]

Not a romantic atmosphere

He then warns Leez not to share what she has learned anywhere and upon her asking why he revealed it to her at all, he tells her that she needs to know, for he sees something special about her. As the reasons, he brings up her personality which does not allow her to become rich and her true name.

Consequently, he reveals that he can see not only the lifespan but also the names of humans since death and names are inseparable for a human. Leez asks if changing her name would affect her lifespan. Claude explains that this should not happen under normal circumstances, but if a name is of a higher rank and acknowledged, it may lead to a change. He then tells Leez that if in the future, she feels like there is something strange about her, she should return to him, and he will return her to how she was, even if the gods would be uncomfortable with the method.

On Leez's side

When Leez asks why Claude cares about her, once more, he brings up her personality that rules out getting rich and tells her that she can handle her heavy burden because she is Leez. Finally, he assures her that he will be cheering for her.

The name above Leez which Claude can see spells "Kubera Leez Ananta" and her time of death is "N23, 10th month, 34th day, 10th hour".

ā€œ What's on your shoulders must be heavy, but hang in there. I'll always be cheering for you. ā€

– Claude to Leez [39]

(10) Having received Leez's message, Agni arrives in Rindhallow to speak with her, and he expresses surprise at learning that Leez has willingly given away the Golden Knight to Siera Sies, who has been seemingly working with Asha Rahiro.

Claude has been eavesdropping on the whole conversation from behind a pillar. When Agni reveals knowledge of Claude's presence and asks him to come out, Claude rains praise upon Agni and bad-mouths Chandra in the process. Claude accidentally lets it slip that Chandra has returned to the gods realm and apologizes for hiding it from Leez. It was stated in the document he received earlier when speaking with her.[40]

Some magicians approach the temple, saying that someone at the border gave a spear to them, asking that it gets delivered to Agni. The Priest and Agni both recognize the spear of god Kubera and Claude explains that the "The Golden Knight" refers to Kubera's whole set of items, however, since the bracelet was the only item that humans could use, the name was often used solely to describe it. The spear that has been brought is technically also "The Golden Knight."
