Samphati is a rakshasa from the Garuda clan. She joins Sagara's crew in order to aid in the attack on Rindhallow. She is the first 5th-stage rakshasa to make an appearance in the webtoon.

Appearance[]

Samphati appears as a beautiful young woman with long blonde hair and empty, lime-colored eyes. Her only visible sura trait is her right foot, which is a red claw. Though when she was at 4th stage, both her legs were surafied.[1] She wears a ruffled short black dress, a red sandal on her left foot, red drop-shaped earrings, and two roses with black feathers in her hair. Her Garuda wings are the same color as her hair.[2] At least one sura has said that she could easily be mistaken for a nastika.[3]

In sura form, Samphati appears as an enormous humanoid.[4] She has a pink spindly mask covering her face and spines of the same color jutting out of her back. A small tuft of black feathers cover her chest, but she is naked from the waist down. Her feet are red claws, similar to her right foot in human form, and her shins are covered in pink armor. A spiky, oblong black claw floats beside her, from which she can fire transcendentals.[5]

Personality[]

She does not talk much and willingly obeys Akasha. She seems to not care much about others, showing no reaction to the talk of other rakshasas and casually breaking Maruna's arm. She shows no obvious emotions, only slightly scowling when Maruna mentions the name Jatayu. This could be due to her stunted emotional capacity that resulted from her abnormally-fast development to 5th stage.[3] This is something she overcomes only after being Tarakafied, and realizing that Yuta was not the one to blame for her sister's death.

She is, however, respectful to her superiors, and has even bowed to Sagara in deference to her.[6]

Skills and Abilities[]

2-118 Samphati begins her pursuit

Samphati teleports away[7]

As a 5th-Stage Rakshasa, Samphati is an incredibly powerful Sura. However, It was noted by Maruna (who is a very powerful Rakshasa) that their power difference is very noticable (when he too is in 5th-Stage).

Garuda Clan Eyesight: She has extremely keen eyesight, to the point that she was able to search for Yuta's location on the surface of the planet from her vantage point in space.[2]

Healing Factor: Like all Rakshasas, Samphati is capable of healing herself after getting hurt.

Teleportation: She has a teleport skill she uses to show up when Akasha calls for her,[3] and when taking her leave from Maruna when she leaves to search for Yuta.[7]

Physical Strength: She also possesses a tremendous amount of physical strength, since she could easily overpower Maruna in his 3rd stage and cause the side of a mountain to collapse with a single step. She is also able to suppress her strength, temporarily fooling Yuta into thinking she could be an upani.[8]

Passive Vigor Recovery: As a 5th-stage rakshasa, she does not require food to recover her vigor, and she is able to beat Maruna for months at a time before her vigor runs out. She also used recovery transcendentals to "repair" Maruna during his "training" so she could continue to beat him without any need to stop for him to regenerate.[9]

Psychological Transcendental: When under the influence of a psychological transcendental, Maruna manages to escape as Samphati is the one who had trained him, and psychological transcendentals were her specialty (Ep.3-79). As such, she is capable of creating powerful and very realistic illusions, trapping people if she so chooses. In Ep.2-166 she manages to trap Yuta within one.

Cloaking: As she has both sky and darkness attributes, Samphati is able to use the highest level cloaking. Meaning that she can use transcendental skills even while using cloaking, without it wearing off. She does this in Ep.2-151, attacking the city while remaining cloaked in space.

Sky Transcendental: Similarly to Maruna, Samphati has a transcendental that changes the color of the sky as she attacks. Unlike Maruna, her skill turns the sky multiple colors (purple, pink, orange, yellow, and green) and causes portals to open and release yellow beams.

Notes[]

  • She holds the record as the quickest-developing rakshasa out of all the clans. She reached 5th stage in a mere 5000 years.[3]
  • Her sibling died at the same time Yuta took on the alias Jatayu and joined the Garuda clan.
  • If her right foot were normal, she would be 168cm tall. She wears a high heel to compensate for the longer sura-part foot.
  • For a while in Season 2, it was only speculated that Akasha is Samphati's mother, but it was finally confirmed in Ep.2-167.[5]

History[]

Ideal - Jatayu and Samphati

Jatayu and Samphati

300 years previous to the Cataclysm (around the year D700), Samphati lost her sibling Jatayu and developed to 5th stage out of her wish for revenge. She used a god-level item of Kali's known to suras as the Pledge Token to develop.[10] However, as Kali's items are known to have negative side-effects, the rushed growth resulted in her becoming somewhat mentally and emotionally lacking.

In the year N1, Maruna is entrusted to her by Akasha to make him develop to 4th stage in under four years.

Season 2[]

Chapter 26: Outsider[]

2-104 poor Maruna

Hellish training

(3) Maruna recalls the period of time, beginning in the year N1, when Samphati was given the task to make him develop to 4th stage within the next four years. She starts by breaking his arm, and proceeds to make his life hell. This is the episode that explains her quick growth to 5th stage.

(4) As Maruna's flashback continues, his beatings from Samphati last over a month before she needs to pause to restore her vigor. During one of these lulls, he tries to start a conversation and asks her if her wings are black like the feathers in her hair. She explains that they are her dead sister's feathers. When he tries to ask who was responsible, she cuts him short and begins the next round of beatings.

(5) As the Ananta rakshasas wait near the gate, Riagara reveals to the rest of her group that their new ally being called by Sagara will not need to eat to recover vigor.

Chapter 27: Last Stand/Last Resort[]

2-109 Samphati (detail)

Arrival

(1) As Sagara awaits Samphati's arrival at the gate, God Kubera warns her that she's playing with fire, but she retorts that Samphati doesn't kill without reason, plus they have something on her to keep her under their control, in a similar way that Kubera controls Gandharva.

(3) Maruna tells Yuta that he has very little time left to find Kalavinka and open a portal to the sura realm to revive their father because someone will be coming for Yuta soon who will show him no mercy.

Sagara grins as Samphati arrives through the gate.

Chapter 28: Emergency/Flight[]

2-113 Samphati and Yuta

Found the prey

(1) As Yuta contemplates going to Atera to pay a visit to Agni, Samphati appears behind him.

(2) As Yuta tries to talk to her, assuming she is a weaker sura, she only stares back silently. When Maruna arrives and shouts out her name, she quickly approaches Yuta, taps her foot, and causes the mountain below to crumble down. Yuta escapes, and at first Maruna thinks she did something to him. She explains that he used a Chaos-related skill, that he is less of a Garuda since his development, and that they must stop him before he becomes an even bigger monster. She then asks Maruna if he has some idea of where he disappeared to.

2-119 Samphati searches

Observing

(3) Clophe makes the observation that Samphati is much more respectful than the arrogant Maruna, even bowing to Sagara, in spite of being from an enemy clan. She also mentions that they will be relying on her to break Rindhallow's barriers.

(6) Maruna argues with Samphati that the other Garuda nastikas are not on board with Akasha's plan to revive Garuda by eliminating his other two children, and that Garuda himself would be opposed to it. She decides that Maruna will not help her find Yuta, so she tells him she has her own ways of finding him, and teleports away.

(7) Samphati, wings out, searches for Yuta by watching the planet surface from space.

Chapter 29: Isle of Myths[]

(2) Samphati examines the blood-spattered escape pod from which Yuta had taken Leez.

Chapter 30: Falling Petals[]

(2) Sagara and Samphati talk together in a snowy mountain area close to Rindhallow, Samphati reporting that she had found Yuta but did not try to kill him. Samphati, unworried that Yuta is in his 3rd stage, states that simply giving him an easy death would not be enough for her. Sagara tells Samphati that she is fine with her personal vendetta so long as it does not interfere with Sagara's own plans. Samphati assures Sagara that will not happen since she has a plan to keep him in one place.

2-128 yes-men

Discussing the strategy

(2) Somewhere near Rindhallow, Sagara meets with Samphati and the rest of her crew. Sagara wants to draw up the plan to attack the city, but is concerned about others getting in the way, specifically Agni. Sagara asks the group if anyone is prepared to take on Agni and to her surprise, not even Samphati is willing. Samphati explains that as long as the god is bound to a summoner, she would not lose to him by pure strength; however, as she is only a 5000-year-old rakshasa, the Garuda clan's affairs could be revealed to Agni through using insight on her. Due to this, Samphati was willing to fight anyone but Agni. Understanding the situation, Sagara instead ponders if, as the only one present who would be unaffected by insight, perhaps Sagara herself should fight him instead.

Chapter 31: Your Justice and Mine[]

2-149 samphati

Smirk

(8) Maruna and Samphati discuss the upcoming attack on Rindhallow, Maruna noting that God Kubera's bad condition is delaying them. Maruna also mentions that it will be difficult to break the four-layer barrier of the combined cities, and that he had only ever broken up to two layers. Samphati decides to take up the task.

(15) Samphati, sitting upon a snowy mountainside, sees the transcendental attack of the Sword of Return and smirks.

(16) While Sagara and her crew are in a meeting, Samphati and Maruna fly in, the former telling the group that they will not face any danger since they will not be in the front line. Ananta suras, whose primary attribute is Earth, are substantially weakened by the proximity of Aeroplateau; due to this, they will be protecting "Him" in the back and wait for the attack to be over. Riagara questions if this includes Sagara, since Samphati previously said she herself would not fight Agni. Samphati replies that Sagara will be in the front line to face Agni, as being a nastika, Sagara still has many transcendental skills at her disposal that do not require the Earth attribute. With Cloche and Riagara visibly upset, Samphati tells Maruna that it is time to go, Maruna grabbing Hura before they leave.

2-150 transformation

Taking sura form

The three suras reach a snowy cliff where Sagara awaits them. After discussing Sagara's choice to fight Agni and her newly regained transcendentals, Hura mentions that the only wildcards left who can influence the battle are the Taraka clan hybrid, the half dragon, and Gandharva. Sagara replies that while she faces Agni, it is their job to deal with the rest. Samphati tells Hura that they will not fight directly but will follow her direction; she plans on dealing with everyone aside from Agni. Samphati then begins to transform.

(17) Yuta wanders, confused, in a yellow haze on a barren landscape. He falls to his knees and is unable to remember what he was just doing. He hears a voice and looks up, only to find himself much younger, back in the sura realm, and facing a pink-haired girl. She says that it was hard giving Samphati the slip, and asks him if they are going to play. Seeing his stunned response, she asks if he forgot her name again. She tells him once more: Jatayu.

2-152 cloaked sura

Cloaked Samphati

(18) Still inside an illusion of the past, Yuta rests his head on Jatayu's lap and tells her he had a long dream that he is unable to remember in which many things happened, but he needed to run away from something scary. She asks if he is forgetting something on purpose. He is confused and asks "Jatayu" what she means by that. She then tells him stop calling her that name since she is not Jatayu, acccusing him of devouring both herself and her name. "Jatayu" suddenly appears with a bloody, gaping wound on her neck and head, and further accuses Yuta of living a carefree life by making himself forget her death. Yuta, shaken up, falls to his knees and bows to her, repeating over and over that he is sorry and he was wrong. The girl leans over to touch his head, telling him to stop crying because he is making her look like the villain even though she was the one who suffered. She then grabs his hair and pulls up his face. She accuses him of pretending to be her friend when he only saw her as food. Yuta denies this, saying that it was an accident. She yells at him to shut up and stop making excuses; she does not care for his apologies. All she wants is an immensely satisfying comeuppance for all of those years since Jatayu died.

2-156 Saha paralyzes Samphati

Immobilized

(22) Sagara, noting that with Agni out of commission, the barriers should be weak, wonders why Samphati stopped attacking. Later on, Chandra notes to Kasak that as Sagara still seems to be in the dark as to what happened to Samphati, they should get rid of the rakshasa before Sagara realizes.

(22) After Hura is struck by Asha, Maruna realizes that the Hiding that kept the two concealed has worn off, and as Samphati is no longer attacking, decides to retreat.

(25) As both Maruna and Samphati have stopped attacking, Sagara decides to leave the cities alone.

(26) While Maruna and Hura are meeting up with Riagara and Cloche, Maruna attempts to deduce why Samphati is absent and no longer attacking. Hura suggests that Samphati may still be on the lookout above.

(27) Back in Rindhallow, Agni urges Kasak and Chandra to leave immediately alongside him, before the other suras could wake Samphati up from her paralysis. Maruna catches a glimpse of them leaving, and realizes that they are going to attack Samphati. Maruna concludes that she did not cease her attack herself and is likely paralyzed. He is not sure that he can get there ahead of the gods to awaken her; so he attempts to force the three to return by attacking the cities.

2-163 maruna begs for help

Begging for help

(29) Maruna fervently begs Gandharva to help him save Samphati. Gandharva tells him that he has no reason to, but Maruna explains that there are only two 5th-stage rakshasas left in his clan; her death would be a huge loss for the clan. Gandharva relents, but says that since he cannot go up into space, they will have to combine their firepower to attack the cities.

Chapter 32: Loser[]

2-164 kasak vs samphati

Kasak

(1) Chandra locates Samphati and tells Kasak to attack. Kasak's transcendental passes through Chandra's amplifier before striking its target, making her visible again. Kasak wonders how they were able to see her now, to which Chandra answers that Samphati is no longer using Hiding so that she can increase its regeneration speed. Chandra then tells Kasak to keep attacking, which will be easier now that it can be seen. Chandra's thoughts affirm the importance of this attack opportunity, that they must kill it now because of how hard it will be to catch it again.

Samphati attacks Kasak and Chandra, but some of her attacks are also directed toward the planet. Chandra suddenly realizes that they are now over Atera. Kasak remarks about how strange it is that the rakshasa dodged quickly yet stayed over the same spot, and deduces that from the very beginning, it intended to take the city hostage when it was without a god. Samphati simply smirks. Kasak observes that if the rakshasa attacks Atera, the city will be destroyed in seconds, and tells Chandra to move directly to the city and take over Atera's barrier to save it. Chandra scolds Kasak, who will not be able to kill Samphati alone and will die for nothing; which is exactly what it wants. Chandra tells him to ignore the city and continue attacking, since killing a fifth-stage rakshasa would result in some damage regardless, but Kasak is adamant.

(2) Inside Yuta's subconscious, Yuta crouches before Jatayu, weeping due to his paining head. Realizing that there is no way Jatayu could possibly be in front of him, Yuta asks who the "Jatayu" in front of him is, and what she has done to Leez. He deduces that he in some kind of psychological transcendental. "Jatayu," now speaking in a far older voice, notes that a simple strike on the head with a sword shouldn't have allowed Yuta to recover his mind. She figures that Yuta must have recovered his consciousness due to her focus on the transcendental being dulled as she was fighting somewhere else. She states that it is a shame that she is not able to kill Yuta the way he had Jatayu, and decides that since she cannot concentrate on him forever, she would do something simple.

As Yuta begins to choke Leez, "Jatayu" audibly wonders how a human would face up against a rakshasa with her weapons and transcendentals taken away. A sobbing Yuta pleads her to spare Leez, and that Jatayu's death was his fault alone; he should be the only one tortured. "Jatayu" (clearly Samphati) says that beating him up would not be enough for her; the pain from seeing a loved one go, just as she had experienced, would be her true revenge.

2-167 mother daughter talk

Mother-daughter talk

(3) In a flashback, Akasha and Samphati discuss Samphati's revenge for Jatayu's death. Samphati insists on making "him" suffer as much as she did, but Akasha, although empathetic, finds the entire situation suspicious; Jatayu had disobeyed her sister's warnings, somehow befriended a member of the Chaos clan, and had even managed to leave their stronghold and venture through the harsh sura realm unharmed. Akasha wonders if someone else was truly responsible for Jatayu's death, and concludes that there must be a primeval god or nastika involved. Samphati refuses to acknowledge her mother's words, repeating that "he" must be the villain. She grows frantic. Akasha thinks to herself that Samphati is not willing to accept that the culprit is someone she is unable to stand up against since this would negate her purpose of development, and that insisting further would lead Samphati to lose the last shred of her sanity. Akasha gives up, and tells Samphati that she should exact her revenge against him if the opportunity should arise. Samphati thanks her mother for her support. Akasha thinks to herself that the price of the deal for Samphati's growth was unexpectedly harsh, and that the things she had lost thanks to that deal would come back to bite her someday.

2-167 kasak vs samphati

Game over

Back in the present, Samphati's transcendental barrage rains down on Atera's barrier, which remains unbroken. Kasak evades Samphati's blindly-fired transcendentals, wondering why she has yet to open her eyes even though the gods have left. He concludes that she is still unaware of the situation, and that he now has the chance to make a move. He rushes towards her, another skill activated, and although she opens her eyes upon him approaching, he lands a hit on her arm, his claws digging into her flesh. He uses a skill to inhibit her movements, but used up a lot of his vigor. Samphati knows that it will run out eventually, but is hesitant to kill him since she heard from Maruna that Kasak knows about Kalavinka's whereabouts. She wants to know if the other business down on the planet is finished yet, and wants to wrap things up. She asks him why he is pushing himself for a planet that should not really matter. When Kasak replies that there are many who live on the planet, Samphati asks him why they should care about an inferior race, especially since all his power is from his sura side. Kasak notes that this unbearable way that suras think is what made him unwilling to reveal Kalavinka's whereabouts to them. She attempts to be merciful, and tells him to surrender before he uses up his vigor and loses his sura form; but Kasak tells her that she is not strong enough to offer him mercy. He then opens the Crescent Gate behind her. Samphati appears horrified as many Chaos suras screech behind her. Kasak sarcastically tells her to use those great transcendentals of hers over there.

(5) At the sura gathering, a worried Cloche asks if the transcendental skill used on "that Taraka guy" has worn off, and when Sagara refutes this, wonders if Samphati, whom Sagara had collaborated with to find a trauma to contain Yuta, has released her grip on him. When Sagara asks why this would happen, Cloche nervously states that Samphati was originally their enemy, after all. Sagara assures her group that Samphati would not betray them since the Garuda clan still has yet to obtain what it wants.

Season 3[]

Chapter 41: Your Seven Years[]

(7) When Maruna criticizes Sagara for leaving Samphati to her own resources when she was in danger in the battle seven years ago, Sagara claims that she had actually seen a lot of Samphati in the last seven years. She also tries to convince Maruna that Samphati would not approve that he is considering leaving himself at the mercy of humans and gods.

Sagara also reveals that the reason Akasha sent Samphati to aid Sagara was to learn the secret trick that Sagara used to become king despite not being the strongest in her clan.

Chapter 46: Soul[]

(4) As Sagara overviews her gathered forces, a tarakafied Samphati is to be seen behind Taraka.

Chapter 48: Separation[]

3-124 Samphati attacking Aeroplateu

Attacking Aeroplateau

(4) Sagara's army attacks multiple cities at once. Only a few are true targets, others are supposed to serve as a distraction. One such assignment falls upon Samphati, who is tasked with attacking Aeroplateau and Eloth from space. The magicians in the city are unable to locate her and they aim to overlap the barriers of the two cities to strengthen their defenses.

When Samphati sees this, she strengthens her attacks, only to be interrupted by Maruna, now developed to 5th stage, who asks her to stop.

(7) Maruna and Samphati fight, destroying several small celestial objects in the process. Maruna notes that none of Samphati's attacks are hitting him. He asks Samphati if it is because their difference in power is so great now, or if she recognized him and is unwilling to fight seriously.

(8) In a flashback to the Sura realm in N5, Maruna defeats a Taraka clan sura, comments that the Gandharva clan must be in a terrible state if Tarakas have ventured so far, and criticizes Samphati for going off on her own.

Samphati points out that Maruna's training is finished and draws attention to the fact that he had just developed to 4th stage. The Taraka sura had not been dead yet and attempts to attack, only for Samphati to kill it. She suggests that Maruna did not finish it off on purpose because it was from his brother's clan and emphasizes that rakshasas like them are not permitted to have such compassion.

3-128 Samphati and Akasha

Saved by Akasha

Back in the current timeline, Samphati repeats her speech about not being allowed to have compassion and being forced to obey superiors. Maruna questions this creed and speaks of how Akasha gave him the Pledge Token. In surprise, Samphati tells Maruna that this could not have been Akasha, for she perished seven years ago. Samphati further highlights the dangers of the Eye of Perishment and asks for an explanation.

Maruna questions if he can trust Samphati. She then reveals that Taraka's original soul was released 7 years ago and replaced by another soul. This soul was unable to handle the Taraka name, a fact that allowed "those who were not completely dead" to recover their minds. She then specified that this soul belonged to the human that died 7 years ago at the exact same time as Taraka.

(15) Samphati tells Maruna that cooperating with Sagara is the best way to save the Sura realm, because once Ananta is resurrected, he will make a short process of the Taraka clan.

Suddenly, Maruna embraces her and teleports them both to the planet Halmut. He then explains that the gods would have found them had he not acted and this could be troublesome since Samphati looks like a Taraka.

3-135 Birds staring at each other

To me you are perfect

Samphati's expression darkens as she says that she is ugly, but Maruna tells her that to him, the way she is now is preferable to how she was before, as she is not blinded by revenge anymore.

Samphati says that once she became a Taraka, her hostility towards Yuta subsided and that she is aware that the death of Jatayu was not his fault. Samphati had refused to accept that another culprit could be responsible because that culprit would be too strong for her to defeat.

She then expresses concern about how the Pledge Token may have affected Maruna. He reveals that he did not use the item.

Chapter 49: The Golden Knight 2[]

(8) Still on Halmut, Samphati has advised Maruna on how to return to human form and Maruna eventually succeeded. She explains that a 5th stage rakshasa would normally need to be taught by their parent nastika in order to learn to control their power, but since this is not possible for Maruna, he must be very careful.

3-158 Maruna hitting on Samphati

Too much like Garuda

Maruna inquires about the grey wolf sura which he can see all the way on Willarv and Samphati identifies her as Tatia and asks Maruna to help her, as the Yakshas are an allied clan. When Maruna questions why help someone who is in league with Sagara, Samphati claims that their clan is in no position to be picky with allies. She explains that the sura realm is presently divided into two camps, Asura's and Airavata's, and the Ananta clan is not even on the radar. Yet the balance could shift significantly should Ananta be resurrected.

Maruna insists that he is not too young to understand this and asks whether Samphati would follow his judgment if he said he had met Ananta. Samphati brings up his increased resemblance to Garuda and asks him to step away. Maruna tells her to stay put and let her body untarakafy while he takes off to help Tatia.

Extra: Special Episode 7 - Ideal[]

Ideal - sad Maruna and happy Sammy

Meeting Maruna

(1) In D651 on Konchez, Samphati - then at 4th stage - and her numerous sisters fly up when a careless flock of young rakshasas disturbs a huge Kinnara clan upani. Among the flock is a second stage Maruna who appears uncomfortable that the Upani should be killed. Samphati speaks up and argues for her sisters to spare the Upani.

Later, Jatayu askes Samphati why she spoke up against the others, since this is very unlike her. Samphati evasively answers that she did it because she wanted to, but in her thoughts, she says that she liked the child who was so different from the king, just a little bit.

It is revealed that Akasha has a great number of daughters and she raises them in isolation and forbids them from speaking with men. This is because Akasha wants to marry them off to nastikas to prevent them from having upani children.
