Lorraine Rartia is a pure-blood human and an AA-ranked magician. She owns a creation shop in the city of Atera.

Appearance[]

Lorraine appears as a woman with slightly tanned skin tone. She has dark-brown hair which she ties in a short ponytail on her back, and brown eyebrows. She wears a pair of round glasses. Unlike most other people, Lorraine seems to change her clothes often; though she tends to dress for comfort and not fashion. Both she and her cousin Siera have gold eyes, which is atypical for pureblood humans who generally have the same hair and eye color.

Personality[]

Lorraine appears to be a slightly playful and quite witty person, who holds responsibilities in high regard (except for the Priest of Creation position—see below). She can easily turn most situations in her favor, and often approaches situations calmly and logically. She seems to be quite difficult to surprise, and even if she is it doesn't often show. She is not very capable in physical terms. Lorraine also shows moderate interest in Asha, although she never displays an obsession like Ruche and Airi. She is also shown to be a very supportive mentor, exemplified by her enthusiasm to take on Asha as a student in her younger days[1] as well as her current treatment of Eiraheeari Catroshife.[2]

Lorraine was supposed to become the Priest of Creation before she ran away, leaving the responsibility to Lutz Sairofe.

Notes[]

  • Lorraine is from a wealthy family, and due to the nature of her magic she is an affluent person herself. She is rumored to donate money from the sale of her merchandise for improvement in the Fighters' welfare.[3]
  • Due to her Fighter obsession, she prefers muscular men but her fiance is not one. As a result, Lorraine has been postponing her actual marriage for years.

Plot[]

History[]

In the year D989 the families of Saha On, age 30, and Lorraine, age 10, arranges their marriage. Ten years later, in a diner in Eloth, Lorraine tells Saha that she still does not think about marriage, but she is unwilling to break off their engagement for now because it would cause problems with their families. She reveals to him that she prefers masculine men who are more accomplished and so he resolves to accept several high-ranking positions he was recently offered. Lorraine thinks to herself that if she waits long enough and gets too old for him, he will break off the engagement himself and find someone younger.[4]

Currygom once mentioned a love triangle in her me2day (now closed) between Lorraine, Saha, and Lutz Sairofe during their university days.[5]

Lorraine has met Laila Hemawati in her past, and the latter told her about Asha's unbelievable calculative powers and divine affinity.[6]

Season 1[]

Chapter 2: The Queen and the Bum[]

(4) Lorraine is first mentioned when the red sky incidents are discussed between Brilith and the temple magicians, where it is decided that since she is a young and powerful-enough of a magician, she should be sent to investigate the most recent destroyed village.[7]

(5) Lorraine shortly makes her first appearance where she attempts to bring along Ruche Seiran as a teleporter to the location of the recent red sky attacks since she's horrible at teleportation magic.[8]

Chapter 3: The Sorrow of Loss[]

(2) Lorraine arrives at the site of the destroyed village on her stomach, and could have died because of Ruche's inconsideration. She threatens to make Ruche lose her job in order to make the latter more responsible in her job. She explains to Ruche the details of determining the number of causalities when she gets the odd result of no casualties. She follows Ruche's deduction of a potentially malfunctioned device, but refuses to return without further evidence and promises to drag her feet, if Asha is the cause of her companion's rush. She easily manages to mess with Ruche, by hinting on the latter's position and lack of work, causing her to suggest a search around the village, and turning it into a lengthy investigation around the village.

(8) The temple magicians discuss that Lorraine is the next best candidate outside of Brilith to reactivate the city's downed barrier due to her triple attributes. However, they can't call for her as she's still investigating the last red sky attack.

Chapter 4: AAA Magician[]

(1) About a month later Lorraine is tailing Ruche and harassing her, trying to get the latter to share Asha's birthday present with her, because her shipment got delayed. She is given a call from Leez, whom she remembers as Asha's friend and starts talking to, while responding to Ruche's finger with a flow of hoti brahma hammer strikes to her head. All three decide to visit Asha, but reconsider since the latter is sleeping, and visit Brilith instead, in an attempt to be entertained. She orders the most expensive drink from Brilith, and receives a bottle of soy sauce from her, as the latter appears displeased by the reason of the group's visit. She attempts to drink the sauce from the cup, but fails and following Ruche's initiative starts to listen to Brilith's story about Asha's magician rank.

(5) Lorraines silhouette, second left, is among the four silhouettes of Willarv's AA magicians.

When the story is finished, Lorraine enquirers Brilith about Asha's missing right arm, but receives no answers from her about the matter. The two spar until someone announces to Lorraine that Asha has awoken.

(6) All four go to Asha for birthday congratulations. Lorraine appears only slightly surprised when seeing Asha with messy hair and in her pajamas. After Ruche pesters Lorraine where her gift is, she explains it would arrive later than anticipated from Eloth and that it contains multiple choices for Asha to pick from, including god-level items. When Leez leaves in shame and Asha tries to follow her, she stops her, claiming that she needs more rest because of the resistance from the barrier. Hearing Asha's feat of changing the alignment of the barrier, she is astounded and considers her worthy of the nonexistent AAA rank.

Chapter 5: The Golden Knight[]

(1) Being unable to deliver Asha's present on time, Lorraine leaves Ari to meet Airi Yui, and even refuses to accept the delivery, ordering it to be sent back.

(9) After spending a day chasing down the thieves who stole Lorraine's box, Leez returns the box outside of Lorraine's shop and promises to come back to return the bracelet as well.

Chapter 6: The Past I Yearn For/Longing for Yesterday[]

(2) Lorraine and Airi seem to be making up fairly quickly and later visit Asha, who is eating with Leez and Ruche. When Airi and Lorraine talk about the stolen god-level item from the returned box, Asha pulls Leez under the table to hide the Golden Knight she is wearing when she was about to ask what they were talking about. They leave Leez to eat, and take a walk outside, where Lorraine gives Asha her present, Hunter's Eyes x50.

(5) When the group return inside, Lorraine suddenly remembers her findings from the latest red sky attack on a rural village, but before she could go further, the victim of those events is kicked out by Asha. Lorraine continues that although the destruction to the village was catastrophic, her instruments read no fatalities.

(6) After the two packed their things, Leez brings up to Asha what Lorraine was trying to say. Asha tries to recite that Lorraine's instruments yielded no casualty, but something stop her from speaking. Instead, Asha elects to tell Leez that everyone in her village died because of her, more specifically, they died because Leez has the name of a god.

(7) Lorraine is later seeing off Asha and Leez, along with Brilith, Airi and Ruche, where she prevents the latter two from starting a fight, by hitting both with hoti brahma hammers.

Chapter 7: Half (半)[]

(1) Leez observes that teleportation is dependent on the magician's range of vision so she notes how Asha couples the Hunter's Eyes X50 glasses Lorraine gave to her with a location's high vantage point for maximization. She remembers how expensive an X20 version already is and imagines how wealthy Lorraine, and other magicians like her, are.

Chapter 10: The Night it Rained Fire[]

(1) On the eve of Sagara's attack on Atera, Lorraine visits Brilith with Ari, while leaving Airi to guard her shop. She has a small talk with Brilith about the Staff of Agni and what the Priestess wants to be modified before returning with it to her shop.

On their way back, Ari is concerned that Brilith isn't the happy person she portrays herself to be. He asks Lorraine who her friend could be. Lorraine replies she is just as surprised to find out that Brilith has a close friend other than Asha. Entering the shop, the two find the guard Airi sleeping. Lorraine quickly silences Ari's rant with her own, and changes the weapon into a monstrous shape with bhavati brahma. She proceeds to have a heated battle with her guard, once the latter has woken and attacked the weapon with the help of hoti kubera. Airi yells at Lorraine that although she's not a triple attribute magician like her, she is better than her in terms of skill. When her attack does nothing, Lorraine evilly announce that the item is a god-level item, therefore, indestructible.

(2) Ari looks at Lorraine uneasily when they discuss Brilith's now beast-like Staff of Agni. He is put in between Lorraine and Airi who are increasing growing hostile to one another again. The two are stopped by Ari yelling at them and refocusing their attention back on the Staff. Ari starts outlining that a month from now, Lorraine will modify the Staff appropriately, but he before he could continue on, they are given a new surprise by the red glowing sky.

(3) The three quickly prepare to leave for the Temple with Lorraine's flying car so that she can relieve Brilith if she collapses from maintaining the barrier. As they do, Lorraine and Airi continue to argue among themselves. When Ari asks why he's coming when they knows that he'll be useless, Lorraine jokingly replies due to his attributes, he'll serve as her backup if she ends up collapsing, scaring Ari for a moment. Lorraine takes the driver's seat, Airi the front-side seat, while Ari is seated in the vehicle's open back and instructed by Lorraine to put on an ankle cuff as a "seatbelt." Ari goes unnoticed by Lorraine after he has fallen off and is dangling behind after she starts the car.

(4) While on their way to the temple, the three are noticed by Sagara. Sagara, recognizing the Staff of Agni, realizes that they're on their way to where Brilith is.

(6) Sagara lands with a large bang on the vehicle. Lorraine quickly boxes in the sura with hoti brahma, while Airi neutralizes Sagara's attack with bhavati asvins. Angering Sagara, Lorraine is quickly grabbed by Airi, and they escape onto a nearby roof, with Lorraine being carried over Airi's shoulder, and carrying the Staff of Agni, while keeping a lookout for Sagara. Ari is left behind to hang upside down again. While running, Lorraine manages to make Airi mad as they escape, and they have a longer discussion about the situation once they have lost their pursuer. The two argue over what Sagara could be. They rule out half because she's far too strong to be that. Airi thinks Sagara is a superior sura but is stumped by how she could speak the language of humans. Lorraine clarifies that the nastika class are capable of speaking the human language, but Airi dismisses the idea as ludicrous. After a little back and forth, the two turn their attention back on getting the Staff to Brilith.

(11) Airi and Lorraine race to Brilith and run into the curly haired temple magician on the way. They notice that the barrier is deactivated and assume that Brilith must have drained her vigor. Lorraine explains to Tara that she'll maintain the barrier till the Priestess recovers her vigor. When Airi comments that the Magic Guild President, Ruche, isn't here, Lorraine plots that if she fails in ousting Ruche from her position, as punishment to herself, she will finally get married the following year. When they enter the barrier room, they find it empty and broken into. Lorraine has a short conversation with Airi who concludes that reactivating the barrier would be futile considering that the suras are now inside the city. Airi decides to engage one of the attacking sura directly, and once she has left, Lorraine is awed by her fearlessness and resolve. Lorraine determines that Airi would be a good candidate to replace Ruche with. The shrine magician feels alienated by Lorraine's calm demeanor and detachment from danger. Considering that the kidnappers didn't kill Brilith on the spot, Tara concludes that the Priestess must be alive and will issue the Temple Guards to search for her. Lorraine replies that she'll join in the search as well.

(15) Lorraine shortly finds Brilith and Agni and breaks through the separating glass with the Staff of Agni. Sagara orders Riagara and Pingara to grab Lorraine before she can hand over the Staff to Agni.

(16) Lorraine loses her balance in the process and falls on her face to the ground. Despite her clumsy entrance, she is capable of blocking the immediate attack from Riagara and Pingara with her hoti brahma barrier, and later bows and hands the weapon to Agni, after witnessing his flaming hands. She has a short talk with Brilith promising to modify the Staff its original look when the Priestess sees what it looks like. When Brilith asks Lorraine if she knew of the God of Fire all along, she admits she had her suspicions since after the first attack when the barrier became weaker and from some of the stuff the Priestess said. Lorraine continues it wasn't just her, Ruche and a few others had their speculations, but kept it quiet out of respect for Brilith. Despite her suspicion, Lorraine confesses she is still surprised to see Agni, especially now that she has seen his face and abs up close – Brilith interrupts her from rambling on. Lorraine watches Brilith and Agni interact, and when Agni goes in to kiss Brilith's cheek, she is just as surprised and shocked as Brilith is.

(17) Lorraine, having witnessed the relationship between Brilith and Agni, reminds Brilith to be positive to keep her vigor high while Agni is chasing after Sagara and her crew. She comments on how amazing Brilith is for summoning a god and that help from other cities will arrive soon just a little after the Hour of Wind. In the meantime, Lorraine recommends they clean up the city and heal those who are injured. Brilith tries to thank Lorraine for cheering her up, but Lorraine interrupts by exclaiming how jealous she is of Brilith.

(20) When the attack is over, Lorraine is seen taking care of the children before finally noticing she has forgotten about Mr. Ari who is still hanging from her flying car.

Chapter 11: The Power of the Name[]

(1) While helping Brilith pick a new dress, Airi argues that it would be unseemly for the Priestess of Fire to choose the blue dress she likes the most. Lorraine disagrees, saying that Priests nowadays are not obliged to follow obselete codes and stereotypes. She endorses the dress to Brilith and quotes her the price for it. Airi comments on its staggerinly high price. Lorraine defends herself claiming that it is appropriate considering the quality of material she made the dress from. Airi counters back that the materials Lorraine's talking were given by Lutz to her came at no cost. Lorraine is speechless for a moment until she argues back that her brand name alone is enough to justify the pricetag. Airi then brings up Lorraine's promise to marry her fiance if she fails to oust Ruche from her position as Atera Magic Guild President. Knowing that Lorraine has no chance of succeeding since Ruche has strong backing, Airi blackmails Lorraine into giving her a free high-end fighter's suit. Ari just looks at the two women begging them not to fight. When Brilith interrupts them to say that she'll be paying for the dress herself instead of with the people's money, Lorraine is caught surprised.

Season 2[]

Chapter 13: Lost[]

(2)(3)(4) Lorraine is among the magicians called to discuss the sura attack on that happened to Atera. She talks to Airi about the latter's memory, and watches Brilith trying to explain Agni's existence to the other magicians.

Chapter 15: The Weapon of a God[]

(4) Lorraine appears to have altered the Neutral Bow to make it usable, at Riche Seiran's request. It was originally designed to be used by only one person, but Lorraine made it so that anybody can use it, although it caused a decrease in power.

(5) Siera says that the Golden Knight was stolen, then ended up with Lorraine, who bought it at an antique shop. He is unable to get it back because the law on stolen properties has not been passed, and Lorraine will only sell it back for 100,000 gold.

Chapter 24: Taboo[]

Chapter 29: Isle of Myths[]

(3)Tara informs Brilith that Lorraine, Airi, and Ruche have already left for the magician conference in Aeroplateau.

Chapter 30: Falling Petals[]

(4) Airi bitterly complains about her uncomfortable ride in Lorraine's upgraded flying car. Lorraine explains that they couldn't otherwise get a transport with a direct route from Atera to Aeroplateau. Ruche chimes in that her teleportation skills made the trip even shorter. After Airi's friends spend a bit of time teasing her, Ruche notices that there are many halfs around, and Lorraine wonders why. Airi comments that Aeroplateau is not a half-friendly city, plus halfs can't use magic so they wouldn't be here for the conference. Ruche has a brief chat with a nearby half, and then explains to her friends that many halfs were summoned to be witnesses in Asha's trial, and Saha wanted to make sure there were plenty of them.

Season 3[]

Chapter 47: Words That Never Reached You[]

(7) A mysterious figure appears at the Mistyshore checkpoint. Her identification card reads Lorraine Rartia.

(8) The magicians a the checkpoint express surprise at seeing Lorraine again and comment about Lorraine not aging since they last saw her. Lorraine ignores them, passes into the city and uses hoti vayu to teleport. The magicians bring up that she must have practiced a lot in the last seven years because she used to be bad at anything other than creation magic.

Lorraine appears before Eline Haias and asks her for the location of the Sairofe children. Lorraine explains that even while she did not exist, her consciousness was awake. She learned and prepared. Lorraine insists that they must kill the children before their souls get used for evil purposes, and suggests that their current lives matter little as they have led countless lives before. At that moment, Agni appears behind her with a stern expression and emphasizes that the present life takes priority.

(9) Lorraine is shocked by Agni's arrival, and Eline tells her to explain herself. Agni suddenly senses that Brilith is in danger and rushes to her bedside. It would seem that Brilith was rewinded back to the state before her awakening.

Lorraine suggests that Asha must have used Hoti Vishnu to turn back Brilith's time. She theorizes that Asha can now pass through barriers because she is no longer in a state where she could be considered a human. Lorraine then admits that she misjudged and thought the Ananta clan would only target the children and that Agni and Brilith's presence signifies a change from the future she saw. She believes that Asha noticed the change as well and intervened by reducing their strength.

Agni suggests that if Asha was the one to attack Brilith in Kalibloom, then it must mean she is in league with Siera Sies, who warned Agni about the attack. Lorraine is surprised to learn that Siera volunteered for the fragment experiment, saying that this is not how it happened in the future she saw and someone must have persuaded Siera to do it. Lorraine explains that she has learned a lot these past seven years, and so have the Anantas who disappeared. Her goal is to prevent the soul from being used for an evil purpose—as a vessel for Ananta's true resurrection. When Eline mentions that Ran Sairofe was there shortly before, claiming something very similar, Lorraine expresses disbelief that he is on the planet.

(13) Lorraine tells Eline and Agni that the information that she knew has changed now, since Ran should have no knowledge about the soul. Eline asks her if the soul is Saha's. Lorraine doubts it, hoping that Saha would be in heaven, and clarifies that she is acting with the purpose of ruining Asha's plans in any way she can. She then states that the soul is probably Teo's, or there could be multiple souls targeted. Agni points out that Leny was born many years before Ran's children, yet she was among those Ran tried to protect. Lorraine asks if he whose soul Leny has, but he replies that she reminds him of someone that he is unable to remember.

Chapter 48: Separation[]

(3) While attacks on cities are underway, Lorraine tells Agni what she learned about the future and apologizes for not being able to remember more. Then they discuss why Brilith Ruin attacked Ran Sairofe. It would seem that neither Asha Rahiro nor Sagara would have the ability to delude her mind. Eline Haias then interrupts to inform that Chandra had left to aid Atera. Lorraine is aghast, saying that Kalibloom and Mistyshore were the cities that needed protection the most. Eline tells her that Kalibloom had plenty of defenders and that Chandra probably thought that they were enough.

Lorraine presses that the soul candidates and those with the power of the name must not fall into the hands of the suras, as that was what the suras need in order to realize the resurrection of Ananta. As they list the soul candidates, Ran's children and Leny, Lorraine reveals that Ran is also a candidate and there is one more still.

(12) While Atera is under attack, Brilith worries. Anne Sairofe suggests Brilith go to Atera, but Lorraine quickly shuts Anne up, stating that there is nothing to worry about. In her thoughts, Lorraine explains that Atera got destroyed in each future she saw and that the soul candidates are in Kalibloom and Mistyshore. For this reason, protecting those two cities is a priority.

(13) Eline discusses the situation in Atera with Lorraine, both agree to keep the severity of the situation secret from Brilith. Anne overhears their words and, after Eline leaves, she confronts Lorraine about it.

Anne expresses her disappointment with Lorraine for prioritizing her own safety when others are in danger. Lorraine gets annoyed and states that all silent magic users would make the same decision, including Anne's mother, Rana Reimia. And including Lorraine's former fianceé, Saha On.

Lorraine then speaks of how she used to be different from them before making the mistake of freeing Asha, summarizing by saying that kindness only leads to worse results.

(17) Lorraine practices some Brahma magic and reminisces about the past. She remembers how Saha told her never to learn silent magic and how she reprimanded him for saying that, as he had learned it already. He told her that something about silent magic users scared him, that something about himself scared him, even. And that was why he admired those who had not learned it.

As Lorraine worries that she would no longer deserve Saha's admiration, she notices that Eline is attempting to lead Anne out of the city. She considers this suspicious and confronts Eline.

(18) Lorraine and Eline are fighting using magic. Lorraine knows that Eline is waiting to use her specialty, Bhavati Asvins, for when Lorraine uses Bhavati Brahma, and she assesses the speed with which either of them can cast their spells.

In a flashback to a lecture at the Eloth university, a teacher explains that silent creation magic is called Imaginary Correction and that it allows a magician to create things with imperfect designs because it will cover up these flaws. Lorraine makes up her mind to pass the class without Imaginary Correction, by creating perfect designs. She practices with Lutz Sairofe and soon manages to get close to his level. She then vows to exceed him.

Back in the present, both magicians cast their spells. Lorraine is slightly faster and she manages to distort Eline's location and imprison her in a rock. Then she asks Anne to come with her. Anne is horrified and asks Lorraine to free Eline.

At this moment Chatan comes out, Lorraine realizes he is the sura controlling Eline and that he has come for Anne. She considers that she is unlikely to defeat him and realizes that all she needs to do is ensure he does not get Anne alive.

(19) Several priest candidates run up to the scene, attempt to help Eline, and try to convince Lorraine to undo her spell. Lorraine contemplates whether to kill the children before the suras can get to them, yet the image of Anne voicing her disappointment keeps coming to her mind.

Lorraine tells the magicians that Eline is under Chatan's control. Though the magicians believe this to be possible, they suggest that in such a case, which person is the one under the control is uncertain. They ask Anne who was acting strange among Eline and Lorraine, Anne points out Lorraine with certainty.

At that moment, Chatan proceeds to attack the group. Lorraine makes her choice and casts Hoti Brahma to stop him.

(20) Chatan attempts to break Lorraine's barrier. Lorraine thinks of what Saha would want her to do and uses Bhavati Brahma on Chatan. She quickly realizes that fusing Chatan with a rock won't be enough to kill him and prepares to use another spell, when Chatan suddenly takes sura form.
