Makara is a nastika of the Gandharva clan and the 2nd-ranked clan member.

Appearance[]

In his human form, Makara appears as a tall man with a light grayish skin tone. He has dark-blue long hair, dark eyebrows, and reddish eyes. His gray-blue outfit is covered by a lighter gray-blue hooded long coat, embellished with dark-blue piping, that almost completely covers him. Currygom states that his purple or plum-coloring in Season 1 is due to the red light of the sura realm,[1] and that his clothes are in fact blue.[2]

Under his cloak, he is wearing armor.

Personality[]

Makara is quite blunt and rational when it comes to advising Gandharva. He is also a realist, aware of the fact that if he should become king the clan would not be okay with it.

Skills and Abilities[]

Transcendental Skills[]

2-59 Abysmal Bite
Abysmal Bite

Effect: physical damage

Makara uses this skill to demonstrate to Urvasi how their power is reduced in the sura realm, since this same skill could destroy entire planets in the human realm.[3]

Notes[]

  • During his visit, Manasvin points out Gandharva is so weakened that he is the king in name only and that the true person in charge is Makara.[1]
  • Makara is friends with Gandharva, so he does not have any intention to take the throne from him.
  • Makara's female form is 155cm tall and described as "small and pretty".
  • Makara had a girlfriend within his own clan. She was a high-ranker, shorter than him, and died fighing a Nastika from another clan.
  • Makara's fashion sense within his clan is quite poor.
  • He's had the circles under his eyes since the Beginning.
  • He sometimes takes off his cape, but it isn't shown in the webtoon.
  • He can cook well.

Plot[]

History[]

Makara is the second strongest nastika of the Gandharva clan and a friend and advisor to Gandharva. He does not seem to be well-liked by other nastikas of the clan, though.[4]

In D500, he advocated for stepping in when Ananta was in danger, but was forbidden from doing so. [5]

After the clan was forced to resettle to the sura realm after the Cataclysm of N0, Makara deals with the complaints of the clanmates and effectively handles the clan while Gandharva focuses on keeping the area purified.[4]

During the attack of Taraka clan suras in N5, Makara was entrusted with looking after Shakuntala by Gandharva.[6] He seems to have survived the ordeal.[7]

Season 1[]

Chapter 6: The Past I Yearn For/Longing for Yesterday[]

1-38 Makara

taking charge

(3) In the sura realm sometime after the Cataclysm in the year N0, the Gandharva suras gather to ask their king to create an ocean, since it is difficult for them to survive in the toxic environment. Gandharva gets annoyed, but Makara tells him to go check on Shakuntala and he will take care of the other suras. Gandharva happily jumps away and Makara explains to the other members of the clan that creating an ocean in this realm could cause their king's death. He quickly comments that he would not mind, as he would become king, which he admits the clan would not appreciate. After the rest of the suras agree, Makara tells them to be quiet, since Gandharva is making sacrifices for all of them.

While visiting Gandharva to seek his alliance, Manasvin notices that keeping his clan's territory purified has drained Gandharva's powers to the point that he has fallen below that of a typical nastika. Manasvin further cocludes that Gandharva remains as king due to his name, but it is really Makara who's the true king.

Everyone! The sura realm is much more different from the human realm. This place isn't suitable for an ocean. If Gandharva pushes himself to make an ocean, he may even die.

– Makara about making an ocean[1]

Chapter 8: The Wavering King[]

1-53 cannot leave the children

priorities

(3) Gandharva recalls Makara telling Shakuntala to think realistically when she insists on staying behind with the children instead of evacuating. Makara explains that her staying would force Gandharva to create an ocean in desperation at the potential expense of his life.

Think realistically. What is more important to you? Gandharva or the others suras?

– Makara to Shakuntala[8]

Season 2[]

Chapter 20: Grudge[]

2-55 King Gandharva

stubborn king

(5) In D500, when an Ananta clan messenger comes to ask for help with saving Ananta, Makara proposes that Gandharva should stay at their stronghold while he takes the others to battle. However, Menaka convinces Gandharva to forbid the nastikas from participating altogether.

Chapter 21: Frozen Tears[]

(2) In N5, he has a conversation with Urvasi. He says that it is absurd to expect a god to come to the sura realm to create an ocean, but that they cannot expect Gandharva to create one for them either. He is already busy keeping the area purified, and transcendentals are extremely weakened in the sura realm. Makara demonstrates by blowing a hole in a nearby mountain with Abysmal Bite, which he says could have destroyed an entire planet in the human realm. For Gandharva to create an ocean in the sura realm, what would he have to do in the human realm? Makara tells Urvasi that Gandharva's few remaining friends should stay by his side.

2-60 invading Taraka suras

Taraka attack

(3) Makara advises Shakuntala to be realistic about the consequences of her choice to not go to the Garuda clan for shelter. He predicts that Gandharva will also stay and try to create an ocean, which would kill the king. When he asks her about what is more important for her, she admits it is her father, but she still refuses to go. In the end, Gandharva decides to make the ocean, and he sorrowfully asks Makara to protect Shakuntala from danger in the sura realm. He accepts his best friend's request, and takes her away by force.

Season 3[]

The Taraka clan has overrun the sura realm, causing several sura clans to be in a state of ruin. The survivors of the Gandharva clan have taken refuge with the Asura clan. It has been said that Leez Haias encountered Makara while in the sura realm, confirming his survival.[9]

Chapter 36: Another Beginning/Start, Again[]

(7) In a flashback, Makara tells a 3rd stage Maruna that the skill Gandharva uses to purify the area of the sura realm is unique to the king of the Gandharva clan, meaning that a new king would be able to use it as well.

Chapter 40: Twisted Bird[]

(10)(11) It is revealed that the survivors of the Gandharva clan fled to the Asura clan. Makara was among the survivors, however, no one had heard anything about Shakuntala.

Chapter 42: Crossroads[]

3-058 Menaka's death

funeral

(6) In D625, Makara is present for Menaka's funeral, standing beside the devastated Gandharva.

Chapter 43: The Point of Your Sword[]

3-065 Nastika doesn't change

(5) Leez Haias speaks of the nastikas she encountered during her time in the sura realm, and claims that they are all beyond redemption, unable to change despite living for billions of years. The silhouette of Makara is shown as an example.

Chapter 49: The Golden Knight 2[]

3-158 Asura clan vs Kinnara clan

Left to right: Makara, Ravana, Asura, Airavata, Hanuman, and Vritra
